Taken from O/P "Before moving, I followed their advice and emailed them in early February to get the meter at my new place registered. I didn’t hear back, so I called them up, and they assured me they were working on it"

Now they've replied to me they're not taking new customers anymore. Point is: I am not a new customer, I am an existing customer who wants their supply moved to the new address.

I know it seems that way to you but that's not the way that any electricity supplier would see things.

Unfortunatly you area victum of these ludicrious failed switching fines that are now impose unfairly in my view, on new and young untility companies trying to get a foothold, and of course only imposed ONCE the big 6 were establised with the help of ofgem have agreed to put up more hurdles to new companies, then the major utility cartels ever had to deal with when they were starting out, hence why TE have been forced to put a pause on all switches.......but this is evidence that these failed switch fines need to be looking into if they can help to cause a new energy company to actually fail, because the only people who lose are the customers of that energy company and those jobs at TE, and i am sure the big utility cartels are more than happy to see that happen, as they do not want more competition, and that is why it is a broken system that favous the established utility cartels while punishing new and young companies trying to get a foothold.

I realise that switching failure fines are a peculiar bee in your bonnet, but this is nothing to do with them. An energy supplier account is to the property, so when you move to a new home you are treated as a new customer and have to open a new account. That' just the way it has worked for decades, long before the switching process as we know it was a thing.

I think it was pointed out to you on another thread when you posted something similar that the 'Big 6' lobbied against switching fines, which somewhat goes against your conspiracy narrative.

This post has nothing to do with switching fines if you read it.

This is as old as time issue of taking your supplier with you to a new address which has a process that the OP was unaware of until it has been explained to them.

For context, my flat is electricity-only with fairly high usage (around 5000 kWh per year).
What sort of heating?  Octopus have various options for specific types of heating.

It's an air to air heat pump, there is a ducted ac system.
Hot water provided by an unvented hot water tank.
Mostly using energy in the mornings and evenings and during the night, in the weekends throughout the day.

Should I give Octopus a shot or go with Fuse Energy?
