Yes my local Lidl and Aldi both accept cards

The bag thing is a pain if you happen to be driving past and think... ooohh... I fancy some pear juice and a circular saw... :D

    LOL, What a combo!

I use Lidl a lot, in the past I have bought a pine blanket chest (had to assemble it myself but it fitted together ok), a computer desk, kitchen stuff - pots n pans, dishes, tin opener. Clothes - ski salopettes for £19.99 - fantastic and warm.

Food wise: Cloudy lemonade - 38p (no artificial sweetners in it)
    large tins of ravioli
    bin bags
    liquid soap
    lightbulbs
chicken burgers (I know...but they are tasty)
    yoghurt
    cheese
chocolate (their white choc with strawberry pieces is to die for and only 75p)
    tinned tomatoes
frozen lasagne (yes it is the best)

I look at their website and see what is tried and tested by some of the leading magazines and try stuff that way.

Hopefully, I shall go there tomorrow (if the snow isnt too bad) to buy myself a crosscut shredder for £19.99 and a Brother labelling machine for £9.99 (types two lines instead of one and there is a saving of about £20).

Just FYI, we always pay with our credit card at both Lidl and Aldi. They have been taking credit cards as well as debit cards for about a year now (Well our stores anyway)

I have a little chest freezer in my garage, and before Xmas was running it down. It was empty this morning, I went to Lidl, and bought:
    Potato Waffles x2
100% beef quarterpounders x3 (Moordale, Irish beef, delicious!)
Paella x2 (My 17 year old can manage this himself:rotfl: )
    Garlic Bagettes x2
    Prawns
    Pizza slices
    Fishfingers
    Scampi
    Stir Fry veg x2
    Chicken Kiev x2
    Peas x2
Cod in sauce x2 (Butter and Parsley)
    Salmon Fillets
    Pork Sausages
    Green beans
    Chicken breasts
    Lamb Chump Chops x2
    Beef Mince x2
    Rump Steak (Tonights dinner!)
    3 loaves of bread
    4pints milk x2

    Grand Total = £63.43 :T :T :T

That's the freezer stocked up, and meals for at least two months, probably three (There's only my DS & Me during the week and OH at weekends)

I think that's really good going, you can make loads of things with mince beef and chicken breasts!

I love Lidl. Though I have noticed that whereas my weekly shops used to be around the £40 mark they now sometimes hit £70 or £80 mark if we're not watching carefully what we fling in our trolley. I love it because there are ranges there that you don't get anywhere else; they've started some organic fruit and veg in our local one, they charge for bags, which I agree with ethically, and I love the feeling that I'm shopping in Germany - anything to avoid rainy catford! The german processed meats are really good quality and there is a really good range too.

I did read a big piece in the Guardian about how Lidl workers have terrible conditions though, so I try to be nice to all the checkout people. THe reason they beep things through so fast is because they have a target number to attain in a minute; rumours are they get their wages docked if they don't make it! :o

We have a Lidl and although i don.t go as often as I should the value is good

I find the Strong white bread flour is excellent value and has a higher protein content than Asda's

The extra virgin oil is a good buy and I agree with other posters about the good quality of the packets of cooked meat.

The Cornish Pastys are good as well My favourites are Ginsters but these are the nearest to them I have found and at a fraction of the price.

They have also recently introduced a range of Fairtrade products which includes chocolate, cofee and orange juice

I am also a big Lidl fan - have only had good experiences on the whole, although I don't think they are as cheap as they used to be (perhaps its me?). I buy the majority of stuff from Lidl - it saves me £20 on the same shop from Tesco. I still have to do a Tesco shop once every two months or so - to pick up stuff Lidl don't do.

I love their cold meats, and fresh meat (gammon joints, turkey breast, chickens whole or pieces, steaks, stewing beef, mince, pork loin chops, duck breast, lamb chump chops), their frozen lamb chops and their fish (when its on special - eg half salmon £4.99). Frozen king prawns and frozen tuna are good value. Their luxury muesli is fab, I add porridge oats to stretch it as its so rich. I don't buy much frozen food as I am limited on freezer space but my Mum buys the frozen chips, pizzas and indian snacks, etc.

I also like to buy their bread flour, passata (its fab), freezer and sandwich bags, cling film, tin foil, butter, Shiraz and Pinot Grigio wine, lagers, sunflower and olive oil, organic free range eggs, herbs/spices, tinned tomatoes/beans/sweetcorn, washing tablets, bleach, Walker's crisps, fairtrade chocolate, cheese (mozarella is generally cheaper than in Tesco for me), tinned drinks and juices, water.

I do buy their fresh fruit and veg - it doesn't last so long because it isn't irradiated as so much stuff is from other supermarkets.

I have however stopped buying milk as it doesn't seem to last as long as Tesco.

I keep a stock of Lidl bags in the boot to avoid the bag situation!!!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Wow this place sounds fab, I only ever use it's car park but never go in. I'm going to try it out on my next shop.

  • I like Lidl because they sell a range of continental foods, available in other supermarkets but at an inflated price.
