Metered with Severn Trent Zone 1.

     £1.614 cubic meter 2023/24                    Standing Charge £33.95 p.a.
     £1.820 cubic meter 2024/25 (+12.76%). Standing Charge £37.26 p.a.(+9.7%)
     £2.608 cubic meter 2025/26 (+43.30%)  Standing Charge £50.17 p.a. (+34.6%)

    Thank you OFWAT!

Yes, it's frustrating. Thanks to OFWAT we're now paying the price for years (or should that be decades or even generations?) of under-investment.

To be fair, OFWAT are between a rock and a hard place. If they had done what was necessary and prudent then they would have allowed the water companies to invest years ago and charge us progressively and accordingly -  which they would have been hammered by the press for. But in response to public demand prices have been kept artificially low for a long time and now we are facing the need to catch up. Or to put it another way we've got to the "pay later" bit of "live now, pay later" - which undoubtedly they'll be hammered for.

There's no easy answer really. If we want to keep the taps running we don't have much choice but to start paying enough now to catch up with the past underinvestment. I suspect that there will be many years of rising prices ahead of us.

Wow - just got my water bill. Standing charges have now increased by 54%, and the unit usage charge is now 43% higher 🤪 Severn Trent metered supply.

I have jest been hit with my most recent bill - a 30% increase in our monthly payments. I am using less water than I did a year ago, but am now paying twice as much per month.

    August 2024 - £16 a month
    August 2025 - £31 a month (up from £23.87 for the past 6 months)

I know this is not much by a lot of people's bills, but it's still twice as much as we were paying a year ago for less water and less service. We live in a two bed apartment, on a metered supply and are very conscious of our water usage.
  • Where is this all going to end? Where/what is the “breaking” point?
I realise that there is absolutely nothing I can do about the increase in the rate per cubic meter supplied and we already are careful with the volume of water used but I am upset with myself for not knowing about the increase until the half-yearly bill hit me this morning (my unit rates up 42% for fresh water and 15% for waste - incidentally why the big difference??)
So when is it exactly that we are going to be given the option of choosing our water supplier as we do with electricity and gas??

£55 per month to £97 per month as at today's DD.

Metered, must have used  less than usual during the current hosepipe ban (although I do admit I like my long showers and rarely use the quickwash setting on the washing machine).  Looks like most of the increase is the standing charges - but can't check our on line account because the website is down (funny old thing!)

    ADD.

On top of the price increases, our usage has allegedly increased by 40% since our last review.  Still just the two of us, no dripping taps or constantly running toilet overflows.  Only difference has been watering essential plants (not the lawn) with a watering can instead of a hosepipe.

Will give them a ring tomorrow to ask them to check our water meter.  It's nearly 20 years old, which google reckons is geriatric.
