Talktalk full fibre fiasco

Help! As a pensioner I know nothing about this change to fibre., I just gather it is unavoidable. My phone, bb and telly provider charged me £60 recently for this 'upgrade' which I had not requested and could not tell me when it would be activated. I complained and got my money back, but now they are charging me £120 for the inevitable upgrade. I have an essential landline as mobile signal is virtually non-existent where I live. Is the upgrade compulsory for me to retain my landline? And are they correct in charging for an upgrade which is compulsory? Many thanks for any help.0
