Chased for credit debts after long period of time over 6yrs

hi i have recently been contacted by a collections company for a credit debt that was from 2006. i thought that it was not possible after so long. i have not had a CCJ for the debt and need to know if they can legally still chase or inforce this?

They can legally chase it but if they started a court claim you have a defence.
Under CONC guidance if you tell them you won't be paying, they must stop collection activity.
There is a standard letter on debt-free wannabe0 -
