Really helpful site. In the process of filling in a C1 form.
Can this be completed by hand?
How do you know what figure to enter for outstanding bills eg gas/electricity when no appropriate readings available at time of death. I have estimated it by working out a 'daily' cost from previous bill and multiplying it by the number of days from last date billed. Any help much appreciated.

One other question please. On my late mother's instructions before she died I transferred  from her account into mine (Had POA) £6,OOO to cover funeral expenses. Since this was not a gift and was used to pay funeral costs do I need to show this on the C1? Thanks in advance.

Hand completion should be ok if neat and legible.

Use your estimate for outstanding bills. These would be included in the liabilities calculation in box 14.

Funds transfer. You might have two options:

    1. Include in the inventory an entry for £6000 held by yourself but the property of the deceased. Then include a deduction value in box 12.

    2. Do not include an entry.

I would be inclined to simply favour option 2.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have learnt so much from this forum.
By option 2 do you mean not include the £6,000 anywhere  on the C1?
Also may I ask how you word the Declinature of a law firm who were nominated as Executors in will?
    Thanks in advance.

If the law firm is a co-executor appointment, it could be as below:

[law firm name as in will] is also appointed executor but declined to act conform to [letter/minute] of declinature dated [date] which is also [produced/exhibited] herewith signed and docquetted as relative hereto.

The declinature document needs to be docquetted, similar to the will docquet.

Kindly asking for help with the following. Does anyone know:

    1. How you would word an asset which is a BT refund, up to date of death but not paid out until after death and the same with a Civil Servant Pension?

    2. While listing shares I have listed Lloyd Banking Group Plc under Estate in Scotland. The registered address is The Mound Edinburgh. Would that be correct?

    3. Estate share valuations have been obtained from Equiniti I'm assuming that is the actual valuation and no other workings out necessary, as mentioned in the supporting C1 notes.

    Thanks in advance.

    You could say:

    • Refund due in respect of overpayment of BT utility bill
    • Balance of civil service pension underpayment

Shares: the company’s registered office usually determines the location for the C1.

I don’t know whether the reporting of shares without the ‘working out’ is generally accepted.

Thanks again Buddy9. Appreciate your replies. One final question. My mother renewed her will in 2011. Do I  need to refer to any previous wills? I can see that her lawyers firm changed its name then.

If the 2011 will revoked all previous will, then only the 2011 will is referred to.

If the law firm as named in the 2011 will is the same as named in the declinature, then that's fine.
