After fitting a new loft hatch, my old CWS tank wouldn't fit through the hole. Being plastic, a circular saw quickly reduced it to manageable sized chunks

My current loft tank (open vented system) is plastic.

However there's a redundant galvanized steel tank in the loft from back when the house had a gas fire with a back boiler. That tank is bigger than the loft hatch and no-one has yet felt like cutting it up!

I’m sure that’s the case in lots of houses. It was on the particulars of a house we once bought (that the disused old water tank would remain), our solicitor said it was fairly standard.

Insulation. Anything else is just a patch on a problem that will still remain unaddressed.

And even insulation is not that effective if you do not switch the heating on for 20 hour stretches in the middle of Winter.....
