Passport worry

It's a while since I got my latest passport, and the fact that the signature is part of the ID page from the Passport Office, and not something you sign when you receive it, is even more reason not to go over it. That is defacing the passport.1

This is worrying me because I wrote over it but I seem to be getting mixed signals as to whether this will cause problems or not as I have the old style passport, not the most recent type of passport.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

I have the burgundy passport and when I applied for my Egyptian Visa, the visa people said they couldn’t read the signature as it was too small so my dad said to sign over it with black ink, which I did and afterwards, the Visas were all approved and I explained to my parents on the phone as I was in town that I’m not sure signing over the electronic signature was a good idea so mum and dad called the Visa people and the passport office and mum said the passport office said they are only really interested in the photograph. I just hope and I did reiterate to my mum she actually spoke to the right people. I’ve no dilemma getting a new passport but my only concern is that I get to the check in and they say my passport is no good due to the fact I wrote over the signature. With respect to my parents, they can sometimes think things aren’t that important and it’ll be alright and then you get hit with the bad news so mum and dad say it’s going to be ok but I’m still jittery about this. I can just see it going wrong at the check in desk.0

Is there a reason you can't speak to the passport people yourself and you are relying on your parents?
Sounds like you need to hear it from the passport company directly to be sure.
I didn't think you were allowed to overwrite on passports and it will almost certainly mean you cannot use e-gates as they are designed to read the electronic print.

Ok thank you I’ll get onto this as I say the Egyptian visa people said they couldn’t read my signature on the passport (burgundy) so my dad got me to overwrite my signature on the passport but when I explained my concerns to them, they rung up the visa people and the passport office and they said it was fine as they are only interested in the photograph.0

Not sure why you keep repeating the colour of the passport? The signature was changed from digital to wet in Jan 2017 but blue passports were introduced in March 2020 and so there are plenty of burgundy passports with wet signatures, it may even be the majority.
You have however confirmed it was a digital signature that you went over. At the end of the day its your choice, it is however now a tampered passport and whilst Egypt may not have the strictest border security there are plenty of countries I certainly wouldn't want to go to with a dodgy passport.2
