What you really want to do is remove the TVR and replace it with a screwable cap that screws on and pushes the pin down
  • Hi

I have a radiator in a spare bedroom I would like to turn off but even though TVR says zero it was still getting hot.

I’ve unscrewed the TVR & pushed the little prong and it didn’t appear seized or anything. Thing is now the radiator seems to be only getting hot at the opposite end to theTVR whilst at the TVR end it is staying cool. I’m no DIYer by any means & wondered if there is something else obvious I could try. It’s driving me crazy haha. Thanks in advance
Could you clarify, please? You've taken the head off, the pin goes down smoothly when you press it firmly, bottoms-out with a clean 'thunk', and springs back up instantly when released?
Did you then replace the head? And there's still a bit of warmth at the lockshield end?
Ok, take the head off again, and look at its underside. See a wee round pin in the centre, probably in black plastic? Watch that as you adjust the TRV setting - does it move smoothly in and out?

    Great Thankyou will try this

The trv head or pin/valve is faulty then.
  • I’ve not had a chance to take the Trv head off again yet but it’s definitely only heating up one side. It’s about a meter long and it’s hot to the whole left hand side from the centre. Centre to trv side (right side) is cold. It’s line a line is drawn up the middle

Ok so pin bottoms out (not sure about good “thunk”, seems to come back up fairly instant & everything inside the head is going up and down as it should. Radiator is about 120cm wide and the left 60cm on opposite side to the TRV is getting hot top to bottom and the right side of radiator where TRV is, is flat cold

    A bit of a mystery!
Which of the rad's supply pipes is hot - the one to the TRV or the l/s?

I will check Thankyou. By the way this heat is when it’s set to zero I’m going to check if it’s still fully heated left to right when set on 5 etc

The zero setting on a TRV doesn't shut flow off completely - Often, zero is the anti-frost setting or 5-7°C.
