Radiator baffling me

Hi
I have a radiator in a spare bedroom I would like to turn off but even though TVR says zero it was still getting hot.
I’ve unscrewed the TVR & pushed the little prong and it didn’t appear seized or anything. Thing is now the radiator seems to be only getting hot at the opposite end to theTVR whilst at the TVR end it is staying cool. I’m no DIYer by any means & wondered if there is something else obvious I could try. It’s driving me crazy haha. Thanks in advance

bazdvd said:turn the other valve off at the other end of the radiatorNo. Do not mess with the lockshield unless you have the equipment and knowledge to balance the radiators again when you want to use that room again. If the TRV end remains cold, then no water is flowing through the radiator, so the TRV is doing its job. The lockshield end is (probably) getting warm because of heat being conducted up the pipe, and not from water flowing.

What's the temp in the room near the TRV? Is it triggering the frost protect?0

It is possible that a small bit of muck is stopping the TRV end from shutting off completely. But I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the radiator is relatively cold, it won't be radiating much heat. One thing to be aware of - A cold room is prone to condensation forming on external walls. This can lead to mould, and in real bad situations, damage to the fabric of the building and any possessions stored in there. I had a small box room where the radiator had been turned off and the door shut. It was basically a dumping ground for "stuff" for a number of years. When I eventually decided to put the room back in to use, wallpaper was peeling off the wall, and a lot of stuff had a coating of mould. Went to strip the wallpaper, and big chunks of plaster came off with it. Ended up stripping back to bare brick, insulating the wall and replastered. I now aim to keep all rooms at a minimum of 16-17°C.No point in trying to save a pound or two on heating if repairs are going to cost £2000 (or more). Her courage will change the world.

Did you then replace the head? And there's still a bit of warmth at the lockshield end?
Ok, take the head off again, and look at its underside. See a wee round pin in the centre, probably in black plastic? Watch that as you adjust the TRV setting - does it move smoothly in and out?
