Final electric bill from Octopus, their billing team at it again. RESOLVED

    They have applied the credits, so is resolved now.

    A bill was produced by Octopus for my electricity just within 6 weeks after I switched away to Tomato.
    On the bill it says "closing reading", with a whole figure no decimals.
    All other previous readings have been smart readings.

    Would Octopus have obtained this "closing reading" from The mysterious third party as Tomato Energy never asked me for an opening reading as they failed to send me any emails or documents after I switched.
    Tomato's first bill does not included any opening readings.

    Looking at the calculations between them, they have double charged me a small amount for the same energy usage.
    Could it be that Octopus have just plucked a figure out of the air to issue a bill in order to avoid the £40 compensation for late billing? The Octopus bill does not state final bill anywhere.

    I think it might be as a way to avoid the compensation yeah.  Mine also doesnt have decimals, nice spot that.

    Thought the change of supply reading had to be a whole number because it is used by two suppliers and must therefore support legacy processes. It's the final bills with decimals that that would be suspect.

    Yeah that doesn't look right. I saw a screenshot of a final "final" bill (after correction of one like this) and it stated in bold under the charges table "This is your final bill", or something very similar.

    If that was the case would usually say say data collector.

    If someone switches one fuel out keeping other fuel with Octopus both fuels within one Octo account I think they just close departing fuel down, no such thing as final bill, credit remains within remaining Octo account.

    Losing supplier should not obtain closing readings from The mysterious third party. "old supplier gets both handover readings from your new supplier"

    I always thought that the bill had to say "final bill" when closing an account, whether Gas/Electricity or dual fuel, that has been my experience in the past except for obviously, SOLR situations.
    If it is how you say then no £40 compensation would be due then?  Shame!

    The issue remaining is that Tomato use TOU billing, no opening reading, no end of billing period reading.  When I total up the units used on the Tomato Energy bill and add it to the Octopus closing reading there is an overlap where I have been double charged.  I have daily readings from n3rgy, bright and MyWatts, along with some meter reading entries which Tomato have now added to mywatts website, not the billing.

    It's a small amount but the failure to use meter readings to open the Tomato Energy account, seems to be causing this issue.  If this is happening across thousands of customers it will soon add up.

    Well I can check again if the words are there, but I do still have gas with Octopus so it isnt my final bill, usually gas and electric are issued on the same bill, this was separate I assume due to the me moving the electric away.
  • Just had this happen to me. Final bill 44kWh over actual. Aside from the fact that Fuse has photographic evidence from their app, let alone the the reading on the 5th I added to Octopuses app, the reading was taken at 10am on the 5th 10 hrs after I had changed supplier.
    Fortuantely I'm experienced enough to have not had a direct debit with them, otherwise I'd be chaing for my own money back.
    Flat theft.

    ^^^^I switched on Feb 7th, last bill i got was 1 day short of my switch day, so as of today, still no final bill which will be for 1 day when it comes, and still no refund of £230 credit because i cannot get a refund until i get that final bill, strange right, almost like it was deliberate to withhold 1 day as to stop that refund.
