Smart gas meters have batteries, but electricity meters are powered from them mains (much as your old one was). No battery required.pseudodox said:Comparing readings now against old meter it confirms the 26 year old was still registering accurate daily usage. This new one apparently may have its battery die in just 10 years. This is progress?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. OK - so I misunderstood the engineer. I did ask a lot of questions during installation but I did not actually take down notes so accept it is the gas meter that is battery powered (the old one also had seemingly been recording accurately) with maybe a 10 year life. But I do recall him saying the elec meter certification was 10 years, although I would have to wait to be contacted when a replacement was due (unless it seemed to be going rogue) so it could be anytime after April 2035.
