MrBIgGob welcome to MSE you are most welcome, I like your style and colourful no holds barred explanations. You will get used to stuffy fuddy duddies, unfortunately the board is full of them, however, ignore them and continue with your update when you get this wonder of science home ; )0

That company you talk about must be called <________> Do you know if they have they been around for very long? I can see how you have very nicely linked a premium brand (M&S) to a Cruddy brand (Netto) :T , I agree with you completely."One truly finds Aldi, Lidl and Netto, way too decadent for ones budget"0 -
it would be wrong of me not to make a joke about this :rotfl:
Why do continue to make fun out of my bad spelling continue to take cheap shots at me about little insignificant issues and generally try to mentally unbalance me in the middle of a serious debate?.. You are NOT my girlfriend!!
..........Next your posts will just be saying "NO" all the time."One truly finds Aldi, Lidl and Netto, way too decadent for ones budget"0 -
sazzywoo was making fun about the "length of your post" not your spelling!:D
I would echo the comments of dmg24 that for £20 and perhaps the cost of a DVD player if you really wanted, having the backing of JL's guarantee for 5 years means so much more than Netto's, especially for a cheap TV where you'd somewhat expect that it will be broken within 5 years. Perhaps you'd be dealt with well by Netto, I don't really know, but having experienced JL's service before compared with the "service" of the likes of Currys, Woolworths and Argos, I would be much more comfortable with JL.
Anyway those M&S televisions look and feel SERIOUSLY cheap (as in cheapo construction). More cheapo than the obviously cheapo Goodmans & Polaroid TVs in Currys with their one-and-a-half candlepower backlights (which is apparently because the aerial in the shop is not as good as mine is). My view appears to be backed up by the M&S phone range which appears to be all rebadged Binatone horrid minging crap. Surprising for M&S to be honest. I did think they were always about quality.
I do get the feeling that the 5 year guarantee will bite M&S in the !!!.0 -
Might have been a good deal but didn't have any at Nettos in Southampton.0

Thanks for the warm welcome LEXA34
A few hours ago, I installed one of these TV's at my mums house. To sum up in a sentence (That will make DMG24 very excited).. Im returning the TV on Saturday straight back to Netto In Stamford Hill North London.. (plenty more in stock should you want one).
The TV is branded 'Cello' and is exactly the same size (All round), even though it has a DVD player built in, as the Humax set I got from JL.. Thats a good start.
Externally, the set itself looks perfectly fine. No issues about the way it looks.
Now this is where it goes down hill, As soon as you turn Cello on you are greated with a grainy vision (more noticible when the screen is dark), from 3 meters away its ok, but any closer and you will notice it. In contrast the Humax vision was massively better then what i was expecting, it offered a very shap picture, and nicer colours.
The colours on this set looks like they have been left out in the sun as they look rather faded. I tried playing around with the settings, but these did not improve the situation at all.
The second issue is the remote control.. what a cheap pile of stinging nettles. ALL the buttons are round dots (pressed out of 1 sheet of rubber) and they protrude out of the remote control at various angles. The tags on the buttons are unclear - just YUCK. The humax remote control is simply beautiful. Its VERY well made, looks good and a joy to hold.
The on screen Menus for the Cello are also unclear and messy, especially the EPG
'to exit menu press the round green button with the play arrow on it'
since a button of that description does not exist on the remote; do you press the 'play' button for the DVD player or The 'green' fast text button?.. Well neither of those options worked - My mum worked out how to exit, but i couldnt even be bothered to ask how she did it.
On a positive note. the 'easy setup' button worked Very well and installed all the channels quickly and effortlessly.
To sum up, this is not a TV i could personally live with. My mum is still trialing it out, but come Saturday she will have to kiss it goodbye. Im sticking with the humax as the screen display really is amazing - 7.7 out of 10 for that. The Chello gets 4.5 out of 10 (ok maybe 5/10 but nothing more).
Im going to follow the good advice in this thread and stick with the 'premium' Humax TV and invest in a stand alone DVD player for £2.50 from Netto - sorry I mean BOSE.
Lastly, regarding the 5 year guaratee; with Netto various offers come and go all the time. In 5 weeks (which is the expected life span of the Cello) I will have to return it, by that time these TV's will be long gone. That being the case all they will be able to do is refund my money or send it away for repair. If they send it away one will be watching the wall. refund, fine but not what you need when you just want your mum to watch TV in peace. JL on the other hand.. well need i say more.
Those who want a full and comprehensive report on the TV, email me your question and email address and I send you my mothers findings..;)"One truly finds Aldi, Lidl and Netto, way too decadent for ones budget"0 -

Mr BIgGob
Love the short to the point posts. Your not trying to check the blood pressure of the fuddy duddies by posting twice are you ? if so ; ) like your style.
Shame it didnt work out for your mum, hope she wasn't too disappointed, but imagine she appreciates your kind thoughts and efforts, but nothing ventured and nothing gained. Just hope the smug ones dont attack as blood is now in the water ? I can hear them circling........0
