Parcel never getting to my house

I bought something on ebay which should have arrive on Monday 3rd but I got a missed delivery message on the tracking app, the same thing happened again on the Tuesday. I contacted Royal mail via their on line system and the parcel should have arrived today but again I got a missed delivery. I checked on my ring doorbell but the postman never came to my house. I rang royal mail and eventually got a person but when I gave them the tracking number they said the address was wrong but couldn't tell me what the address it was being sent to (GDPR).

I contacted the seller and they said the address where it had been sent to which was correct except the post code was wrong ending in C instead of E. I have been on the royal mail web site but it just sends me in circles and I can find no way to correct the error.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to report it as not delivered?

Try calling or going into local sorting office. They may well have it sat on a shelf.

You could move to the house it was sent to, or eventually it will be sent back to the poster and can be resent at someones expense.

Is your delivery address correct on eBay? If it is the seller's error then they are responsible for covering the costs, if you gave them an incorrect address then I would imagine you'll have to pay the extra postage. I'm not sure royal mail can hand you a parcel in this case as you haven't received the 'something for you' card and your ID will have a different address.
Just out of interest was the label autogenerated or hand generated. If it is automatic then once the sender entered the postcode it will autofill in the street name, so even if the sender read it as 123 high street ab1 2dc the label might have printed 123 low street ab1 2dc.

My address is correct on ebay, Since contacting the seller and them telling me the postcode was wrong, they have gone quiet on me.

Then if the item is now overdue raise an item not received case. And keep monitoring royal mail just in case they manage to deliver it to the wrong address, then you will get photo confirmation that it was sent to the wrong address. With the tracking number and delivery postcode you should be able to see its journey.

An incorrect postcode would result in the item being pulled out of course for manual sorting.

And? Op says royal mail have twice attempted delivery but there's no card and no doorbell footage. So where are they trying to deliver to?
  • As it's just the last letter that's different, it's probably at your local sorting office, and presumably it'll have you name on it so I would try as @born_again said and pay them a visit.

Or, it might still turn up with you. I once received a letter that had the first letter of the postcode missing and had spent some time a few hundred miles away in Liverpool before they successfully delivered it to me.

I can't answer that but what I said is correct. (Retired postman).

My point is that the tracking shows royal mail have tried (twice) to deliver it, bit not to the recipient's address. So as far as royal mail are concerned it is NOT addressed to them so a customer service point is pretty unlikely to hand it over to them.
My gut feeling is that it is more than just the last digit of the postcode that is incorrect and that the street name is wrong on the parcel label.
If it were you delivering a parcel and the street name on the label didn't match the street you were delivering to and you knew there was a street called that nearby with a very similar postcode what would you have done?
    I.e. parcel says 123 high street ab1 2dc but 123 high street is actually ab1 2de and ab1 2dc is actually 123 low street

It's a different story if it's the first letter as no-one at royal mail can be expected to know every street in the country.
