February 2025 Grocery Challenge

A few small shops here and there.
I've just realised that I'm getting paid monthly, but it's the middle of the month.
So my food budget will run from around the 14th February to the 13th of march and then the 14th of march.
A couple of spends to declare this week.
£24.66 in Tesco on some cereal bars, miso paste, seaweed sheets, salad vegetables, mixed frozen vegetables, high protein yoghurt, sushi, vegan ham and some fresh fruit.
I'm back attempting slimming world again, so it will be interesting to see how it go.
Especially with how everything seems to be getting more expensiveDecluttering campaign 2023

Eeek! Dashing in to report a massive total of £189.35 spent this week; just under £100 re-stocking the grocery cupboard after the festive depletions, plus £47.25 at the butchers (that's actually two weeks worth, as I'm away next week) and £39.45 at the supermarket. There'll be more tomorrow - fruit & veg from the market, plus some fish - and a top-up early next week, then I'm off to Wales for a week house & pet-sitting. OH being OH, will eat leftovers & anything he can find in the freezer, and DD2 & I will mostly eat from Ds1 & DDiL's capacious freezer! DS3 is away for most of it, being half-term.
I tried a too-good-to-go, inspired by DD1 & BF's exploits, whereby they "score" goodies for pennies several days a week in their very-posh little town. Ours was £2.99 and I'm still in two minds whether that was good value or not; we don't eat a lot of ready-made food. But there were 3 packs of rolls that felt fairly fresh, which were frozen straight away & OH will eat next week, two bags of pre-prepared tenderstem broccoli & julienne'd carrots which DD2 & I ate, and a tub of very nice cream of tomato soup. Only the black pudding scotch egg went out (to the chickens, shhh...) so certainly not a waste, just not things I'd normally buy. Hmm - I wish there was a "greengrocery" option!Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6 -
Evening all - a few small spends on the delivery apps, as they have 50% off on Wednesdays. I wouldn't use them normally but the products still work out cheaper than at the supermarkets even with the service charges etc. It's also convenient when you work full time with 3 kids and can get the items delivered whilst your doing something else.
Total now at £291.80/£500.
I haven't been to Ald! for ages so will go during half term to see what new products they stock and fill up the fridge with lunch items.Grocery Challenge 2024

My local Morries now donates loads to a local food bank and with our financial situation having improved with state pensions, I haven't used it for the last few months, leaving it for others in greater need of the bargains.

Don't know what happened there. I have lost my post! Spent the day decluttering and making up beds for guests over half term. Should have gone SM shopping bit didn't get around to it. No meal plan in place for today and no onions, potatoes, frozen chips, veg, fruit or mushrooms. So a few bread crusts and beans made us beans on toast for our valentine's dinner. Took me back 49 years to when we first got married and couldn't afford much more. The really good thing about this is that normally on days like this we would have picked up the phone and ordered a takeaway. It wouldn't have come from GC budget but we have saved £35,00 towards a bumper holiday for our big wedding anniversary and our 70th birthdays next year. We also loaded our old mattress into the car today and took it to the tip ourselves saving is another £25.00. so feeling smug!😇craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

My OH would have been very happy with beans on toast for his Valentine's dinner, @Soontobeoap, it's one of his favourite dishes! Sadly he was forced to eat HM "paella" instead - never mind, he still went back for seconds!
£5 spent this morning on a 500g bag of "pie fish" from the local fishmonger (for said paella) - their pie fish packs are splendid value! - and £20 on fruit & veg.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7 -
