Coupon-mad said:But how to fill in the DQ is already fully covered in post 2 of the NEWBIES thread.Sorry @Coupon-mad I've already found your post which has helped a great deal allowing me to fill in the N180 form, but for the life of me I couldn't see an explanation for the bit I'm struggling with.I think she's filled it in correctly by ticking first defendant on page 1 and leaving the last boxes under her signature blank on the last page.Regards and thank you again

We were contacted by the mediator, who seemed very much on their side from the off. We offered £5 and he immediately said "they wont accept anything less than £100, but I'll see if I can get them to £50. If not they'll just go to court because they're already £35 out of pocket, so wont accept anything less than £50". After a lot of back and forth we got them down to £40 and agreed to it. Seeing as the fee for a mediator was £35 and the original ticket was £1.70, that means my mum is paying £3.30 which will go to DCBL.Of course my mum doesn't want to go to court as it will mean a days work missed, and the stress and uncertainty of winning the case. So she feels it might be best to pay but wanted me to ask here for some guidance?Regards and thank you so much again.0

"Seeing as the fee for a mediator was £35"Mediation is free for both parties. He was talking about the claim filing fee that was listed on the right on the Claim Form.
Your mum didn't have to try to cover that. That wasn't hers to pay. What you described wasn't how to play it. Your mum (or you if you took the call) should have put the phone down after three minutes and not allow yourself to be steered.
"Fiver nothing, Mr Mediator, byeee"
Not sure why you played it this way instead of as advised in the Template Defence 8 steps?
Your mum would never have had a court hearing and would have paid nothing at all, because - except when it's Excel - DCB Legal always discontinue single PCN cases (assuming the thread title is correct & it was them).
Having agreed to pay money she now has to pay I'm afraid. If she doesn't, and reneges on this agreement she will open herself up to hundreds in costs for wholly unreasonable conduct in litigation.
The good things are: forty quid isn't much. And the case is over quicker.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
