Wasn’t sure how to word the title
In the disability law is there a different between a medical disability and a non medical like learning disabilities.

And how the way work can make or not make accommodations for these two different areas of disabilities?
Thank you

The law relating to employment is not based on the type of disability or it's source, it only cares about capability/capacity.Dancingcrocodile said:Wasn’t sure how to word the title

Thanks, I’m just confused as I was told ‘as it’s not medical’ like there was a difference.MattMattMattUK said:

There are several sub-categories of disability which can be useful such as physical disability, sensory disability, intellectual disability, and some of these are used in law.
Americans like to outdo everyone else. Their IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) for instance recognises 14 different types of disability.
I'm suspicious of 'medical' as a category. I suspect the user might recognise only two categories of disability, 'medical' and 'made-up'.2 -

No, at least not unless "medical" is transient rather than permanent, so it does not matter if someone cannot walk because of a genetic issue, a growth issue or an accident, as an employer you manage the disability of them needing to use a wheelchair.Dancingcrocodile said:

I agree with other users that "medical" sounds a bit of an odd term for an employer to be used, unless they are sceptical of the claimed disability and want evidence to back it up.1 -
Work. It really upset me and confused me. So I’m trying to work what it means. Spoke to friends and they didn’t know. And said speak to the union. As it’s the weekend I’m been in a real panic. As I confused where I stand and my rightsmarcia_ said:Who told you that?0 -

This is a separate issue to those posts about who I look after. As I’m talking about myself now.molerat said:I wonder, from past postings, if OP is not referring to themselves re the disabilitieshttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6568578/migration-from-esa-to-universal-credit0 -
