Didn't use credit card at all for Xmas and in fact have stopped using it altogether.

This year I put a set amount into a separate account (SMILE) with a debit/Visa card every month and use that for online purchases, big bills such as car repairs, xmas and family trips, holidays etc.

Feel much more in control - only spending what is there.

Did you learn from previous xmases and budget this year or did you go for one last fling on the credit cards?
Did you stick to your budget? How less stressed are you this January if you did? Any tips?

I've already started on next xmas in the sales :D

I have used it, much to my annoyance, but then again I am currently in the US and have had a combined wedding/holiday/christmas vacation (so have had a good excuse and still works out cheaper than a traditonal big white british knees up wedding).. and with the dollar being so weak against the pound and so much stuff cheap over here I have spent more than I wished. I have put 500 pounds on my credit card, but will pay it off when I get home.

I WILL stick to my new years resolution to get rid of credit card debt this year!!!

Ummm... yes I used mine this year..

But on the upside I have it set up to pay it off in full each month so shouldn't accrue any interest, just get the lovely cashback. The fact that I've gone over budget with what I intended to spend... well I'll just have to suffer that one :(

I had to spend cash this year. Bought presents for 4 adults and 4 kids and only spent £100. Already stocked up on wrap and general cards for 2008 Xmas in the sales.

I am going to buy as many presents as I can on reward cards - Advantage, Nectar etc, and do daily clicks/sealed pot challenge to have a 'free' Christmas 2008.
Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,000
  • :T Didn't use my credit card - first yr I drew a line though £10 spent per child instead of £30!! Starting shopping in Sept for parents etc However did find out DH hasn't paid his Credit Card since August - which is when we seperated finances - I went onto DMP, so now owe £500!!! they wanted £300 by Crimbo, but couldn't afford it. My boss didn't pay my £300 bonus and my DH boss (he's a MOT tester and works for small firm) told him they hadn't made enough money and paid him £300 less than his Salary. So gonna be a tight month.
I need to find some pennies from - possibly and Angel! to pay some of it off - Quidco should be paying me £320 but they're 'reviewing my account' which they have been for 2 months now.

Any hints tips or suggestions gratefully received.
