Yeh thats the trouble, on the invoice the part isnt listed. Its just in the workshop manual for the vehicle it states that it must be replaced once removed. So technically I havent paid for the part if that makes sense.
To be fair you cannot always read too much into what the workshop manual states EG Workshop manual manufacturers fix for cross threaded sump plug on old banger Replace Sump Practical garage fix fit Helicoil at probably 20% of the cost of sump replacement Difference may be between scrapping car and keeping it.
I could list many more examples of such things having worked exclusively on one type of car many years ago As far as stretch bolts are concerned I would guess that many independents would not replace them. However if they are VW approved they jolly well should have replaced it.
