What does your proof consist of?
Pictures of before and after work was carried out which shows the bolt. The part currently fitted to the car has a particular marking on the head of the bolt which shows it's tensile strength, this particular version was discontinued in 2021 and superseded with a bolt with a higher tensile strength (and so different numbered stamping on the head of the bolt)
The pictures I have before and after show a clear 'nick' in the bolt with rust present. The same rust and 'nick' is present on the bolt in both the before and after pictures (in the same position on the bolt), aswel as the old number stamping on the head of the bolt.

They are a VW approved garage and within the workshop manual for the service they carried out it states a particular bolt (which is quite important) needs to be replaced due to it stretching. They havent replaced this, they told me they have however I have proof which shows they havent. The bolt is not on the invoice they gave me which is why I questioned it with them originally.
Have you shared the proof with them?
Yes and they have asked for a face to face meeting with me
    Have you had that meeting?

    What did they say?

Not yet, they want to do it at the same time the bolt is being replaced.
I have already sent proof over to them, but didnt really get a response relating to that directly, thats when they requested I speak to them face to face

They are going to replace the bolt , which is what you want to happen.

What is your concern and what do you want, beyond the bolt being replaced?

Its now put doubt in my mind that if they havent replaced a £6 bolt, what else might they have not done. I know that sounds very judgemental against them, however when I have it in writing that it was replaced and it clearly wasnt, so this is why I feel this way. Also I requested them to check other specific areas of the car for issues before starting any work and these were reported to me as being ok. However after taking it to another garage and seeking opinions of other motor technicians, I have been advised this isnt the case.

So, what do you want to happen.

You have not said. Only that you don’t trust them.

Ask them to put in writing what happened and what follow up action they are taking.

You are right to be judgemental.

I would like the bolt to be replaced (which they have agreed) and potentially a partial refund for the work carried out. It feels like I have paid for work which I would not have requested to be done had I been informed of the other issues which I asked for them to investigate.

Then you need to negotiate with them.

You need to work out how much you want and put that to them, and see what they say.

Thanks for all the advice given.
I visited the garage and explained the situation to them. They advised that even though they previously emailed me confirming the bolt was replaced, it hadnt actually been replaced.
So they replaced the bolt with a new one and also fitted some new spark plugs FOC.
I need to monitor the vehicle now and report any further issues to them
