Consider a HMO if you’re keen on staying in the same area. Kitchen and bathrooms may be a bit scuzzy though

I think an HMO will be a bit of a comedown/shock from the OPs own private space in the current place they're living in.

But, it seems to be that the OP can't afford the private space in the current place they're living in.

You need to look elsewhere. Did I understand it right that your rent is £2400 and UC pay £2000? The taxpayer cannot be expected to sustain this - you need to live more within your means.
You say the taxpayer can’t support this shows you don’t understand the situation

the government chose to put money o top of people’s rents to push rents up. It’s propping up the property market and the banks.

if the government took away the UC and people had to pay rents out of their own pocket then there would be mass defaults and rents would fall to what people could afford out of their own pockets.

There would be mass repossessions as people could not afford their mortgages

this would crash the property market and the banks would collapse
A lot of people do pay their rent out of their own pocket, as they don't qualify for any help at all with it. And that isn't just people well off, there are lots of people struggling to pay rent and bills and not entitled to any help.

You may have a grudge against the government and feel that they have created a problem and it is their responsibility to sort out, but the reality as everyone has pointed out is that you are living beyond your means and need to make a change that means you can live within your means. That is either by reducing your outgoings one way or another, or by taking on more work to increase your earnings.

Completely agree the OP is living beyond their means... In their shoes I'd move to a different area to get similar accommodation for less money, over moving into an HMO.

That rather seems to be key here.
A few years back the OP was putting down speculative deposit for a CyberTruck.
There has been a change of circumstances.
The OP is now on UC and finding it challenging to meet their rent.

The OP has ignored any comments suggesting to prepare a proper budget based upon current circumstances and income.  An SoA shared in the DfW area would make a big change.

I think the people here understand rather more than you do. I don't think the house price/rent inflation in this country is helpful to the economy, and I'd prefer the subsidies to private landlords went on social housing, but bringing this argument into play doesn't help yourself, however much truth there may be in it, and seems a bit whiny.

You've ignored all the advice you've been given  and haven't given much information as to how you've arrived in this situation. Many years ago when I was lucky enough to buy at the age of 28 on a single income I'd been living in a house share, and not in London or an expensive city either, and never received any housing benefit. I appreciate I'm out of touch but you are receiving more in housing benefit than my annual income..

Agreed. But, I've not been in the position of not being able to afford a resonable, private, property. So, it's easy for me to say that.
