when we left the travel agents we had our confirmation with prices etc plus our seat numbers as we booked them at the same time.
by the time we had arrived home the agent told us the price for the seats (2) had gone up £286 . We could change to cheaper seats but would not get a refund .
Can you clarify please, are you referring to the cost of the specific seat reservations (normally only in £10-20 territory) or the flight tickets themselves?

are you saying that you booked specific seats and that would have cost X but now can only go back to the standard which when you booked would have cost Y (which is less than X) ? but they aren't giving you the difference back?

I am sorry my query didn’t make sense .,,but it doesn’t make sense to me what easyjet have done
we went into the travel shop to book a holiday. We were helped by the agent who booked our holiday for us..including flights as it was a package .
when we left the travel agents we had our confirmation with prices etc plus our seat numbers as we booked them at the same time.

hope this makes more sense and you don’t have to be so hard on someone who is upset and frustrated as we hoped the travel agents would make a better job of booking for us than doing the booking ourselves. We just wanted honest opinions to see if this was the norm.

It still doesn't make sense to me.

So you bought the package, including seat reservations. In which case it makes no difference to you that other people will have to pay more for their seats: you have got yours.

Or: you bought the package and then the shop said they charged you the wrong amount, and if you want those seats you have to pay more money. You don't want to pay the extra, and so will content yourselves with cheaper seats. In which case why would there be a refund?
My read is the latter. There would be a refund because the shop said you can have "regular seats" for £X or "nice seats" for £Y extra. OP picked "nice seats" for £Y. Now the agent is saying "nice seats" are £Z or you can get the standard seats the £Y paid. However OP is getting standard seats instead of nice seats for the price agreed. The refund they're expecting is the £ Y - X, since they're not getting the nice seats.

I've just had a quick look on the EasyJet site and the cost for assigned 'standard' seat and 23kg hold luggage is £63 per person each way.  That's not far off the figure the OP has stated.  My suspicion is that the travel agent messed up the booking and is trying to blame TUI/Easyjet.

If a TUI package using Easyjet flights it seems 1x checked bag of 23kgs is included, as is a small piece of hand baggage.  The only extra’s would be seat selection cost or possible the Upfront seating/large cabin bag/Speedy boarding type upgrade.

    Indeed.
Is the customer obliged to make a seat selection at the time of booking - as opposed to accepting that Easyjet will allocate them nearer departure date, unless upgrades are chosen ?
£286 for upgraded seating for 2 passengers appears very wrong - even if their online advice says "from £12.99" for this extra.

Unfortunately it seems we won't be able to unravel this puzzling pricing issue.
