Flight seats

Today I booked a TUI holiday with easyJet flights. Within an hour our easyJet seat prices have increased and if we change back to cheaper seats we are unable to claim the difference ..
how is that fair !

You paid a price for the seats, end of story.  I presume the OP paid for some kind of seat upgrade and was hoping to get back more than they paid for them.  That ain't gonna happen.  If Easyjet went back to the OP and said they had increased prices after the OP had made their purchase so now wanted more money what would the reaction be?

I'm not following how seat prices have increased following a confirmed reservation with TUI.
Unless the OP has opted for upgrades through Easyjet rather than what TUI had on offer at the time of booking ?
Also, TUI's bottom line price using Easyjet as carrier does not include hold luggage which is charged extra.

I am sorry my query didn’t make sense .,,but it doesn’t make sense to me what easyjet have done
we went into the travel shop to book a holiday. We were helped by the agent who booked our holiday for us..including flights as it was a package .
when we left the travel agents we had our confirmation with prices etc plus our seat numbers as we booked them at the same time.
by the time we had arrived home the agent told us the price for the seats (2) had gone up £286 . We could change to cheaper seats but would not get a refund .
hope this makes more sense and you don’t have to be so hard on someone who is upset and frustrated as we hoped the travel agents would make a better job of booking for us than doing the booking ourselves. We just wanted honest opinions to see if this was the norm.

The people who replied weren’t being hard on you really, but without all the details it’s difficult to give a helpful response. Have you checked online what the prices are now?   What is the price of the cheaper seats?  Did you get a confirmation of your original booking from Easyjet or just summary of the whole transaction from the travel agent?

Those of us who repiled were trying to be helpful.
If you didn't understand the situation those of us who responded are most likely in the same position.
TBH I still don't follow what has happened.
My understanding is that when you book through TUI with Easyjet as the carrier then standard seats are included in the price, only hold luggage is an extra charge.
If you are on a TUI flight standard seats and hold luggage are included in the deal.
Presumably Easyjet allocate standard seats nearer the flight date, as TUI do, as part of the overall deal ?
I suggest you speak with the travel agent again and clarify if seating was included in your original booking - and if so, get them to contact Easyjet to explain where the £286 comes from.

It still doesn't make sense to me.

So you bought the package, including seat reservations. In which case it makes no difference to you that other people will have to pay more for their seats: you have got yours.

Or: you bought the package and then the shop said they charged you the wrong amount, and if you want those seats you have to pay more money. You don't want to pay the extra, and so will content yourselves with cheaper seats. In which case why would there be a refund?

    Hi. Welcome to MSE.

I think you need to take a deep breath and then explain exactly what happened as a lot of us are still confused.

Do you mean that when you left the TA that you just had a confirmation having paid a deposit? Then later on the TA informed you that the prices had gone up by £143 each and whilst you didn't have to pay this, you couldn't get a refund for the holiday so you were committed to going?

Please correct me if I'm wrong - however I wouldn't expect there can be any difference in the bottom line price regardless of paying the deposit only or the final cost of the booking.
I can't see how Easyjet can "gazump" the seat price after confirming a reservation.

This sounds very suspect, I doubt Easyjet charge anywhere near £286 for seat selection for 2 seats, let alone an increase of that sort of amount. It sounds like the agent has screwed up and is making excuses to be frank.
