Hi Guys
Had B&Q out today to design a new kitchen for me. It's a tiny kitchen and I was pleased with the design BUT the followings prices had me flabbergasted:
Remove old kitchen £298
Install oven £154
Install hob £150
Install extractor £73
Install kitchen £756
Install floor tiles £220 (4m2)
Install wall tiles £200
Remove old wall tiles £220
Plumb dishwasher £120
Plumb washing machine £150
Install mains earth bonding £215
Install RCD or RCBO protection to existing ring main £250
Total cost to install (and they are just the ones that jump out at me )£3661
Total cost of kitchen £1646.34 without oven or hob.
Is it me or are their prices above excessive?

I usually take £250 for a NEW CONSUMER UNIT (including relatively straight forward main earth bonding )
New C/U £250
MEB £40+ if more awkward.
Does the price include the cooker electrics?
(new electric hob + electric double oven = extra circuit)
Have seen B&Q prices, remember they charge £65 per socket when doing your kitchen.baldly going on...0 -
by all the units etc from your chosen supplier and then find a man to fit it all.
much cheaper. as beens said you are just paying for a company to find a local installer for you. not bad money for a phone call?
you should be paying about 500/1000 to fit a kitchen.
do some work yourself. 500 to remove old units and tiles? my daughter could do it!
ill do it for 200 dabs!!Get some gorm.0 -
also cut costs more by buying your sink, taps and appliances, and handles if poss from elsewhere.0

Thanks everyone.
I think I will go for the option of buying the kitchen and getting a local man to install it for me. I will remove tiles etc myself. Should be fun!!Life is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get0 -
Yeah avoid the "B&Q" fitters, we got our units from B&Q and the sales guy even said avoid there own fitters as it is very expensive. Used a local firm who were much cheaper.I hate migraines.0

Yes, but then youve got the old problem of the Fitter Blaming the kitchen, and the kitchen supplier blaming the Fitter, when something inevitably goes wrong
PS could i have the no of the the fitter who will only charge £500 -£1000 to fit a kitchen (including cutting the worktops, Gas/Electric plumbing etc)0 -

B&Q charge a minimum of £2000 for installation, regardless of how few units are involved. We went to MFI instead, their price was lower and 'their' fitter was very good.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I looked at B&Q but the fitting costs (and some of the feedback on here) put me off.
I was really lucky to be recommended a local guy who got me a lovely kitchen from Howdens, all the appliances, and charged £3500 which included supply, tiling, electrics, new ceiling with downlighters, new flooring and laminate. All done and dusted in a week with minimum disruption. He even called me up a month later to ask if I was happy with everything.
If only he could have fitted my bathroom too! as of next week it's been a month since the plumber removed the bath, toilet and sink and hasn't yet replaced them. (Bath and toilet (no cistern!) are here, just not fitted!)
Two completely different experiences of using local guys!
Good luck with yours!0 -

Did you get a BS7671 (IEE Wiring Regs Certificate) for the electrics?
You should have got a minor works for each circuit as a minimum, or an electrical installation certificate to cover it all.
If you live in England / Wales you should have got a Part P certificate.
if you had a gas hob installed you should have got a corgi cert.
hope this helpsbaldly going on...0
