The OP should have been able to see that sign well before they reached the yellow box ... if they didn't then it seems like they were focussed on something other than their driving - or they were driving without proper visual acuity. 🤷♀️Jenni x0

There is a difference between seeing a sign and trying to read an unlit sign at night at distance.

There was nothing to prevent him stopping in the yellow box, and he has been penalised for an offence he didn't commit.0 -

Given the box is around 3 car lengths. When eye test on driving test is a number plate @ 20 mtr or around 5 car lengths in daylight. These signs are far bigger...
Or if they did not notice them, then their attention must have been elsewhere given the size of the 2 signs 🤷♀️Life in the slow lane1 -
