There is the speaker for music/ alarm/ ring tones and then another for the ear piece if on a call that you aren't using loudspeaker for. Does that make sense?
I don't fully understand that, but have just realised there must be two, as on a phone call, you can switch to speakerphone.
Is the user able to control which speaker is used?
At present, I'm concerned about missing phone calls due to not hearing the ringtone (vibration doesn't work for me).

I've inserted/removed the headphones a number of times, and cleaned the socket, but still the problem remains.
An online search showed everyone having the reverse problem to me (they had no sound from the headphones, but did get sound on the phone).1 -

When you hold the phone to your ear on a call there is a speaker in line with your ear. Playing music or an alarm would use the loud speaker often located somewhere around the side edge of the phone. I imagine the phone picks the correct one depending on what is required. Is vibration switched off? What do you mean by it doesn't work for me?

Vibration hasn't been very good for alerting me to an incoming call, and so I need the audio ringtone to do this.
As there are two internal speakers then that suggests a software rather than a hardware problem (it is unlikely that two components would fail at the same time).
So that brings me back to thinking that a setting has changed.
Are there any other settings, other than the Do Not Disturb that would stop the audio for the speakers?0 -

Quite conceivable that those two speakers are controlled by a single component which has failed.
It is a 5 year old budget phone which has not been getting security updates for years. Time to replace it.2 -

Try to turn vibration up to a stronger setting? Can you hear people speak when on a call? Volume controls may be set to off. Have you tried to restart your phone? It might be a software bug of course.

All the volume settings are close to maximum..
In those 5 years, the phone has behaved better than my laptop, so it seems quire a waste to replace it.
However, I do take the point that it could be a security risk.
I didn't realise that my phone wasn't receiving updates.
Are there any websites that give the details of the security lifetimes for mobiles?
The ringtone volume has always been set to maximum.
The problem happened after I switched the phone off for the first time in many months. I've tried a few different resets.
I could try on maximum vibration, but, as pointed out earlier, I may need a new phone for security reasons.0 -
On my banks website I see:
If your mobile device uses Android 7.0 or below, Google no longer sends security updates. So you may need to update your device.
My phone says that I have Android 10.0, so is the phone secure at the moment?
