But just wondering, is this normal and is it a security feature?
Is there any reason why a refund "must" be processed as a return to the original card used? Why not another card? Or cash?

Yes I figured it was related to money laundering, though I don't understand money laundering enough to know how I would go about it!

    What is cheque kiting?

That can't be Chase, the card doesn't have a visible number.

I mean viable via the app. Presumably each debit card has a unique number? If I use it to make an online payment, this is the number I use

It's all a bit confusing having two numbers, but Chase do explain it in their FAQs

Think that's confusing, Revolut have three numbers (sort of).

Physical card number (like Chase, although printed on card & in app)

Virtual card number (like Chase, available in app)

    One-Time disposable number (in app).

Thanks, that explains it! Will remember to explain that to the retailer next time it happens.

What part of the legislation? AFAIK it's not recommended but not illegal.

The last four digits that are printed on the receipt are not the virtual number

I have had a couple of issues recently with the debit card number when trying to get a refund from a retail store.

The number printed on the receipt is different to that visible on my card. Each time, the shop assistant has refused to believe that it's the same card. As I know that it's the only card I use, I've had to persist and show her the transaction within the Chase app to get the refund processed.

But just wondering, is this normal and is it a security feature?

If your card is in the Apple wallet, when you open the card in the wallet, click on the 3 dots in a circle top right and you'll see an option which shows the last 4 digits of the physical and virtual card. Will this help?
