Definitely go for it @SuzeQStan - B00ts ones are small and the earlier collection time would be much easier. I have considered picking them up, but have other priorities currently. You can always do a one-off collection if it comes up just to see what it’s like, rather than committing to an ongoing slot.
*delurking* and also apologies for derailing… I second themadvix and say go for it! I’ve been a FWV for around 3 years and B00ts is definitely a nice easy intro into the world of FWV’ing! An added bonus is if your collection is small (5 items or less) you can keep the items (think this only applies to B00ts).

Edf bill paid. I provided them with my bank details for the fourth time in two months so 🤞 they actually manage to take the money out by themselves next month. I will double check just to be sure! 🤣

Random stir fry of things for dinner thanks to Olio. Though tbh, I might as well have just said a bowl of cooked mushrooms with the odd bit of veg on the side as I have basically a whole shelf in the fridge full of mushrooms atm. Thankfully I am a huge fan of mushrooms, I just don’t have the energy to get creative with cooking lots of dishes this evening. I don’t mind freezing dishes with mushrooms in something but I am not a fan of freezing them on their own. So, all meals are either mushroom or hot crossed bun related for a while! 🤣 That said I am in the office tomorrow so I may branch out to chilli for one meal. 🤷‍♀️

My friend makes a fantastic mushroom soup with veg stock, parsley and fresh lemon juice. Until I tasted her version, I'd always make mushroom soup by sauteing them then making a roux and cooking the whole lot in milk. My mum used to make a very thick version of this to have on toast - comfort food indeed!

Or of course there's the full English...

I love hot cross buns and can get through far more than are good for me, but I believe they are good in bread pudding.

Mushroom stroganoff is my go to when I've got lots of mushrooms - you need loads because they disappear when cooking don't they!

I have a bag of frozen sliced mushrooms so I can put a handful in an omelette. No one else eats them in our house so it works for me 😊

Thanks everyone for all the mushroom suggestions. I’m a big fan of mushroom stroganoff so that will be on the cards I am sure.

Sad to report today did not go well budget wise. I was really good at work and did take my chilli with me so no actual purchases at work. But, it was super cold and I had to keep walking from building to building for meetings. Despite heat packs and painkillers I had enough by half three and politely informed my manager than I was calling it a day. I think if I had just come straight home I would have spared my budget, but I had pinched the last of dd1’s milk this morning on the promise that I would get some back on the way home so I popped into Tesco en route. And, well I bought a lot more than milk! Clearly I was both hungry and craving comfort in both the form of food and retail therapy. It was bad. So bad I am not sure how bad because I didn’t even look. I have almost certainly blown my budget. 😞 Dinner ended up being Doritos and cookies (I didn’t even eat the pizza or chocolate I bought), and not a mushroom in sight. Damage done, I am just going to go asleep now and start again tomorrow. Fingers crossed being back in the warm will help. 🤞

Hope you all had better days. x

Woke up this morning feeling suitable ashamed of ‘dinner’ last night. It is bad enough eating it, it is even worse knowing I told everyone I ate it! If nothing else it was a bad example to set my dds. That said, I am forgiving myself as I know how much pain I was in and instead of beating myself up over it, I am going to consider what lessons I can learn from it and what I could do differently next time.

Realistically I think I should have just come straight home and just eaten something. I need more things preprepared in the freezer so I can just grab and microwave healthy food on days when things are bad as not being hungry is half the battle. I used to be good at batch cooking but currently the freezer is rammed full.

Action 1: Empty freezer, plan meals around what is taking up space and then batch cook for bad days again.

Yes, coming home would have meant not getting dd1 her milk back but realistically I could have just apologised and given her the cash instead, she would have understood. She could have easily picked up more on her way home.

Action 2: Do not go into a shop if not well enough to look at budget and stay on track!

Exact damage done is still to be determined. Being the last day of the month means full wrap up of finances required so I will be getting the laptop out later rather than trying to reconcile on my phone. I don’t think it is perhaps as bad as first expected, but either way, there is nothing I can do about it now, so I just need to manage the damage and focus on not doing it again.

Action 3: Reconcile budget later today and consider if there is any way to mitigate the damage done possibly by reducing next week’s budget to compensate.

Nobody's perfect and Trigeminal Neuralgia really does hurt bad. Best thing to do is accept that and plan for bad days. Spring is around the corner so things should hopefully get better for a while. I just need to remember to get out and live my best life once the warm weather comes, and spend last two weeks of September/first two of October in prep mode for the colder months.

Action 4: Put a reminder in my diary to plan September/October budget to account for the ingredients for prepping. And remember to do it!
