Ol!o is amazing isn’t it? You have a fabulous haul there. What’s in the brown parcels at the back? Looks sausage shaped parcels but can’t quite make it out.
I wanted to become a FWH volunteer to do Ol!o collections/ distribution but OH was firmly against it as didn’t want people coming to our address to collect. Which is ironic as I’ve shared over 300 free items with 50+ collectors over the last couple years (and received around 30 myself).

I looked back at the picture and realised there is at least a whole head of broccoli that you can’t even see. And it really doesn’t do the 18 hot crossed buns and three packs of mushrooms justice either! 🤣 I obviously didn’t request quite so many but it was give them to me or bin them so I said I would take them. Ex-FWH here. It doesn’t have to be every night - they should really only be doing two slots a week, but because of the enormous effort required, lack of gratitude from lots (but certainly not all) who collect, and the depressing nature of it (the waste is never less, imo it’s a sticking plaster that allows the supermarkets to get away with not looking more closely at their processes), I think there is a shortage of collectors. Plus there are more stores involved now and of course there’s local politics/bitchiness too 😢
I gave up (after 2 years on my slot) because what was originally a morning collection slot became an evening one and I am not an evening person. It is hard work, but never had any issues with people collecting, except the lack of manners!
Great haul there though - and it sounds like you have some great local FWH!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Sorry to hijack the thread but it’s really interesting to hear the perspective from the other way round re Ol!o. We have a dinky B@@ts with a reg collection slot up for grabs - I’m tempted to go for it as an ‘intro’ to FWH - and the collection is early too as store closes 5:30pm so would suit me I reckon.Lancashire

Definitely go for it @SuzeQStan - B00ts ones are small and the earlier collection time would be much easier. I have considered picking them up, but have other priorities currently. You can always do a one-off collection if it comes up just to see what it’s like, rather than committing to an ongoing slot.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ah, thanks for sharing @themadvix . It is really interesting to hear from the other side. I am beginning to think I just live in a hugely wasteful area. Literally as I turned up to collect my very yummy hot crossed buns the guy was actually on his way back out to do another collection. It seems mental the amount of items listed around here. I’ve not come across a Boots collection though so that may indeed be very different. It all sounds a lot more doable. 👍End of
