Flight cancelled issue

I was suppsoed to fly with Batik air last week. Due to midnight fog, the flight did not take off at the scheduled time. We were asked to wait for an hour and 2 hours later, we were told that the flight has been cancelled. We were to be taken to a hotel by coach and we would be put on the next flight at 2:00PM the same day. I had a connecting flight and could not wait for such a delayed departure. I booked with a different airline and made the trip.

I then got a notification from Trip.com ( with whom I had booked the flight ) that the flight had been moved to 3:00AM the next day.

I asked for a full refund and Trip.com will only offer me ~ £50 in refund. Batik's customer service never replied to my email.

As such, I have done an Amex chargeback and Trip.com are now saying that unless I reverse my chargeback, they will refuse to allow me to book flights with them in the future.

What do I do here?

    Several important details are missing:

Is Batik Air based in the UK or in an EU country? If not, which country's laws govern your delayed flight?

Was the delayed flight part of a longer journey on the same ticket? Was the connecting flight on the same ticket?

Batik Air are a low cost Malaysian airline and unlikely to sell multiple leg tickets, was your connecting flight on the same booking reference?

As you were rebooked and offered accommodation a chargeback is likely to fail and blot your copybook with Trip.com as they have indicated.

Did you actually tell Batik you would not be travelling when offered the new flight?

Batik Air actually did a pretty good job, weather delays happen.

    What do I do here?

Take the £50 on offer, withdraw the chargeback and move on.

    Exactly this.

You shouldn’t have initiated a charge back.

If you look over the Trip.com T&C’s that you agreed to when booking, I expect there is an administration fee covering the handling of refunds.  The £50 will be the fare minus the Trip.com fee.

    They are based in Malaysia.
No, I booked two different itineraries i.e. PNR's. One was with Batik to Malaysia and the second one was 12 hours later with Emirates to Heathrow.

No, they were not on the same booking reference. I booked Batik through Trip.com and Emirates was through edreams.

I told the Batik gate staff that I cannot wait and did not want to travel with Batik the next day. They off loaded my checked baggage and guided me back to arrivals. They also said that Batik will provide a full refund as the flight has been cancelled. On Flightradar, the flight shows as having never flown for that date.

The Batik flight never reached the airport from Malaysia and diverted to the airport of a neighbouring country.

    The cancellation breakdown is :
    Paid : £165
    Cancellation fee : £105.80
    Trip.com fee : £10.10
    Refund : ~ £50
