Bank practices or branch practices that have ceased....

People who don't trust technology and think a paper copy which is easily damaged or lost sent in the post so they can take it to the bank to pay in is betterRob5342 said:Interesting, i wonder why anyone would object to someone saving them work.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

My mother still likes getting her NS&I warrant in the post when (if) she wins anything on the Premium Bonds.I then scan it and pay it in via her bank's app.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0

I remember the days if the bank manager didn’t like you then you would not get an overdraft. BTW I know this was fact because the then assistant manager told me the reason. How things have changed.4

If everything people said about their bosses was definitely true, no companies would ever survive!MABLE said:I remember the days if the bank manager didn’t like you then you would not get an overdraft. I’m quite a nostalgic person and think progress isn’t always for the best, however THIS point is why I think better now is better than in the past. The idea of a bank manager personally knowing all my business and being the arbiter of finance in my life strikes me as horrifying. Especially when attitudes to difference/lifestyles wasn’t very open minded. Would I get a mortgage as a gay man with my partner for example? Probably not, if the bank manager was a bigot. Far too much powder invested in one person. Give me an algorithm any day.MABLE said:I remember the days if the bank manager didn’t like you then you would not get an overdraft. When applying for an account at a branch you would see the decision codes. I remember in 97 applying for an account with and I could see her going through my credit file on line0

The banks have to pay the Post Office for use of their counters, and the cost of this increases every time the contract is renewed. The Post Office need to generate more income to replace their 'traditional' income of dealing with parcels, TV licenses, DVLA transactions etc (and, say some, pay the massive compensation bill...) and they have the banks backed into a corner given the number of branch closures.gsmh said:
As a member of this forum I would imagine I’d do what others on here do and have another current account which does allow cheque deposit via the app, then transfer the funds to the intended account. Those less savvy could pay cheques in at the Post Office - the majority of banks offer this facility.Section62 said:
If they bank with Nationwide then not using the app to pay in cheques won't be a matter of choice.EDIT: Nationwide doesn’t allow the paying-in of cheques at the Post Office! I’m very surprised.
Nationwide have probably decided that the cost of providing Post Office access to their accounts is not worth it, given they've made their promise not to close any branches.4
