Oh, I see... this is to force private sellers to LIE and move to eBay business accounts - becoming "business sellers" so that they can pay tax on their OWN belongings when they sell them... how crafty... !
On the second bit I've quoted you don't have to lie to be a business seller on Ebay, even if you are a private seller, you don't have to pay tax on personal sales either. Ebay can't change HMRC rules. That's just the name of the account, on Amazon they call it a "Professional seller".As far as anyone on here working for Ebay, I doubt they have any employees that care that much to bother. Like most big companies Ebay is a machine. They're interested in making money, that's about it.In later years 2013 - 2022 Paypal also offered INSTANT PAYMENTS for eBay sellers, meaning once a buyer has paid the seller had the security and piece of mind that the money from their buyer was in their PayPal account.
As for taking 10 days to transfer from PayPal to your bank... I always used the instant bank transfer and the money from PayPal was in my bank account within 1 - 2 minutes.
If using the "Transfer funds using a debit card route in PayPal takes 3 - 5 working days and this incurres fees from PayPal for this service so I never use that ! - Slow and expensive.

As I sell on Amazon, from a transfer it is usually 3 working days before it hits a bank account. I'm actually on one of the speedier payment routes, some have to wait to be paid every 14 days and 7 days after confirmed delivery. Other marketplaces are 30-60 days payment. Ebay is one of the faster ones.

Payments from PayPal balances were pretty much instant unless it was a new eBay seller or an unusually high amount...
In recent years (after 2013 when eBay owned PayPal) it worked really well and I remember being offered "Pay After Delivery" (now called "Pay in 3" here in UK) which I loved for my eBay purchases as it was basically an short term interest free loan, where PayPal pays the seller upfront the full amount on my behalf and PayPal then debit my bank account for the money at a later date (the old Pay After Delivery was 14 days after purchase date and the newer Pay in 3 was done in 3 installments with the total amount split into 3 smaller payments, one payment on the date of purchase and then the other 2 taken on the same date of the following 2 months until the purchase was fully paid for...
So for example If I bought something off eBay for £90 with free postage and Paid for it using PayPal Pay in 3 on 20th January 2025, PayPal split this £90 payment into 3 X £30 payments and would debit my bank for the first £30 payment within 24 - 48 hours after the purchase date and then repeat the next 2 payments on the same date of the next 2 months until fully paid... so 20th Feb second payment would be taken - coming out of bank approx 1-2 working days... then third and final payment would be taken 20th March coming out of bank again in 1-2 working days...
To be honest when eBay owned PayPal and it was all integrated together it worked so well and actually encouraged sales on eBay to happen... now it's very slow/dead but that's another story...2 -
A bit off topic but if we are being reminiscent , does anyone else remember Nochex that was a pre runner to PayPal and held out for a few years alongside PayPal before they gave up competing? I used that for a while on eBay before I used PayPal.To get back on track I remember when PayPal was introduced on eBay and the outcry on various boards and on here was worse than than as a result of this. We had people claiming doom and gloom if buyers were offered PayPal as it meant sellers were no longer in control. Sellers were moaning and threatening to go to all sorts of legal routes to stop it being allowed when it became compulsory to offer it as a payment method. For some time some sellers even held out adding a note to their auctions saying buyers should ignore the PayPal option and pay by cheque instead, and some even offered discounts if they did so. The anti PayPal / pro cheque movement held out for years , nowadays all these changes and complaints tend to fizzle out after a few months.Oh, the good old days where you waited a week to get a cheque, a week or more to let it clear and then finally sent the item out after about 3 weeks. Also the joy of bounced cheques, as the current clearing system was not in place and a cheque could be recalled for fraud after weeks.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I can't imagine how some complainers here would cope with regular cheques, being received by post, finding time to bank them and then wait for clearance, or worse, getting a bounced one and being with a bank who charged for that privilege. Back in my auction room days I used to have to pay to 'express' them. I can even remember getting a bankers' draft that 'bounced'.

I have a £300 item that was delivered via RMSD yesterday (21st January).
The postage label was purchased and printed via eBay - so tracking was auto uploaded upon purchase.
Tracking on the RM site shows delivered yesterday, yet the eBay Orders page still shows 'Dispatched'.
If I click the tracking link it shows delivered though - so it's just on the orders page.
So in this case, would I receive my funds after 2 days or not??
This is a stupid move.2 -
I was pleasantly surprised that we can still use normal postage on eBay - their press made it sound like it would be payments through them or nothing. As I'm usually selling things like beginner trading cards, sewing patterns, badges, and other things that can be a large letter or letter, and I have a lot of stamps left over that I've been using up, I was ready to stop selling. Most of the things I sell go for £1-£5 so it wouldn't be worth paying for RM24. I'm a bit annoyed that all my items are going to be 75p more expensive but heyho, will see how it goes.
Mortgage start date: 01/10/2021
Original mortgage debt: £128,000
Remaining debt (05/07/2025): £82,885
Daily interest: £2.79
Mortgage debt end of 2023: £101,528 | Mortgage debt end of 2024: £88,8762 -

I'm sure they will get on with it if sellers start selling with the buy for £1 with £20 postage nonsense that used to go on.
