UPDATE: Collected Moto G54 from Argos and local EE Shope transferred information from Moto G7 Power to the new 'phone. Will take a little bit of time to get used to the new 'phone but first impressions are excellent.Thank you, again, to everyone who very kindly replied to my post and provided good information and help.3

Staying with the Moto G and going for the current iteration is a solid move for anyone who wishes to stay as similar as possible and Argos seem to have the most competitive prices so you did well there.[Deleted User] said:Collected Moto G54 from Argos and local EE Shope transferred information from Moto G7 Power to the new 'phone.
The biggest difference I noted in making the same change late last year was the finger print recognition no longer on the back but now built into the power button which I find less intuitive and less reliable such that I disabled the finger print feature and now reverted to a PIN number

Biggest downside with the Moto range is the short support lifecycle.
The G54 was released in September 2023 on Android 13, is only getting one OS update to Android 14 and security updates for 3 years in total. So by October 2026 it will be only good for the bin, really not good enough in this day when other providers are doing 7 years of support with 5 OS updates.1 -
That is a valid point but not everyone has anything sensitive on their phone so security can be less important in those cases. The Moto phones are also budget priced so 3 years of updates might mean that a top-end phone to offer the same level of value would need to offer 30 years (not 7) of updates...400ixl said:Biggest downside with the Moto range is the short support lifecycle.

My new Moto G54 says: "Android 14 is here!" and is asking me to click to update. For now, until I get used to the 'phone, I'm delaying doing this. I am pleased with the 'phone and, for what I need, it is ideal.

I don't suppose it will be much different, but you may as well 'go for it' now rather than having to get used to 14 when you do change.[Deleted User] said:My new Moto G54 says: "Android 14 is here!" and is asking me to click to update. Agree with @J_B , the update won't make much of a difference to you as a user, but better to get it done while the phone is new.1

Thanks J_B and flaneurs_lobster. I have to brave the weather and go out soon but will click on the link later today.(Just in case anyone else with hearing difficulties is reading, my main concern was for the 'phone to have good volume, at least as good as the Moto G7 Power. I am really pleased as the volume on this Moto G54 is ideal for me. I have two hearing aids but, on occasions, owing to an ear canal problem, I cannot wear one or both of them.)Clicked to update and everything seems to have gone really well.0
