Replacement for Moto G7 Power

My contract with EE runs out next month and I am thinking about having to buy a suitable "prefer still Moto G" replacement.  I would, as before, prefer to buy my 'phone outright and have a renewed EE contract next month.

My Moto G7 power has lasted well since 2019 and has had good volume for me - my hearing is not as good as it was.  My G7 Power charging cable/point rarely works and keeps stopping charging.  Even when charged, by holding it in place myself, the charge seems to last much less now.  Good ringer volume is important to me.

I am not good with technology and I am familiar with Moto.

I hope (using gift money from Christmas towards it) to pay, if possible, a maximum of £270 - nothing too complicated to operate.  I prefer going into EE shop to buy and get everything transferred to a new 'phone for me.

Any advice or suggestions for what to look for (with good volume for hearing) will be very much appreciated, thank you very much.

Moto G54 5G is £179 at EE shop (although it's £140 at Argos). Will look & feel similar to your G7 Power although the interface has changed a bit.

The fingerprint reader has moved from the back of the phone to the power button on the side.

If volume is important to you then you are absolutely right to go and get it in your hands to check it out before you buy.

Hope you can get a decent airtime deal, EE have a reputation for being expensive. What are you paying at the moment?

I think a bit of extra context would be helpful here.
    1. Are you looking to buy just a new phone? Or are you looking to buy a new phone and contract?
    2. If you are looking for just a new phone, how much do you pay for your current SIM and how many mins, texts, and data do you get for it? I only ask because it may be cheaper over 24 months to get a new contract and phone.
    3. If it's a new contract, how much data do you require?
If you are looking to buy a new phone and contract, I would avoid buying from the EE shop. Buying new phones with contracts are a lot more expensive in-store compared to buying online through a reseller. EE is especially expensive I think.

Thanks for replying, flaneurs_lobster.  My EE SIM only contract ends next month.  The 'top' figure is £20 per month but, somehow with discounts, I only pay £5.39 per month.  I know it will go up in February.  If it is not too expensive I would be interested in having more GB to use outside if needed.I don't use GB, use Wi-Fi at home, but I have 1GB included if needed.  I have free unlimited calls and texts.

Thank you jbrassy.  I appreciate the help.  I would just like to buy a new MotoG smartphone - nothing complicated as I am not good with technology and I am familiar with Moto.

I have SIM only with unlimited minutes and texts and, never used, my 1 GB.   The top figure is £20 by direct debit every month but, with discounts, I don't quite understand, I pay just £5.39 every month.  This will go up next month when the contract ends.

I rely on Wi-Fi at home but would like to consider more GB to use outside if needed - maybe 5 to 10 GB would be more than enough.

By all means go and see the phones and talk about plans and their costs but be prepared to walk away. EE's standard rates (which you may well be able to get discounted ) are expensive, and will rise in April.

Another seller like 1p Mobile use EE's network but you could get 10GB for £8/mth, EE's website says that would cost you considerably more.

In my nearest EE Shop the person was very helpful.  They only offer packages and it is not possible to buy a 'phone fron them.  As I have an EE SIM they suggested I could buy a 'phone elseware and, at no cost in the EE Shop, they would transfer over the information from my Moto G7 Power in the shop to my new 'phone.  Since I am mot good with technology that was a very welcome offer.

I came home and telephoned EE.  The best option, at first was £10 per month for 10 GB Data and unlimited calls and texts.  Since I only pay £5.39 for 1 GB at the moment, and I probably would not need as much as 10 GB,  it was suggested that, when I phone back (suggested a month before my contract ends in February) it might be available (no guarantee) for £9 per month or it could be more.

I forgot to ask if that was for a 12 or for a 24 month contract although I understand there will be an increase every year in March or April.

I am most appreciative of your replies and any continuing advice.

My Moto G7 Power is increasingly  difficult to charge.  Before I buy a new 'phone any advice on what I am now thinking will be really appreciated.

I can collect the Moto G54 from Argos today, or tomorrow.  I can take it to the EE shop who will transfer over information from  my Moto G7 Power to the G54.

Since my contract with EE runs to close to the end of February, I can delay a decision about a new contract, as I get used to the new G54, until later.

Is it right enough that the SIM card currently in  my Moto G7 Power will transfer to the G54 and work as normal?

I am grateful for any replies.  Thank you.

That all sounds eminently sensible. The SIM card slot is the same size in both phones.
