Ive no idea how they work out a last settlement figure either - random number generator I think. 😁
We once paid of a CC and I believed that was it until we got another bill through the following month for...wait for it....10p! The company then wouldn't/couldnt take payment over the phone (days before online was an option) and I refused to pay far more for a stamp than what I owed to send a cheque! I ended up paying it over the bank counter the next time I went into town.

Today i have received an email confirming that Hastings directs final figure to settle the loan is the £13.08 that i was quoted yesterday  :)

Im well happy with this figure and it seems my little plan to try and save a few quid (£68.58). So i have just logged in and made this payment. well £13.06 as it wouldnt let me pay £13.08  :disappointed:

But luckily it still says this will settle the loan in full and i will get confirmation in an email.

Slightly in 2 minds whether to cancel my Direct debit now or wait for my confirmation email first. I dont want it to get to a stage in the month where the bank says its too late to cancel a direct debit that is due out in the next X amount of days. So hopefully i will get the confirmation email tomorrow an i can cancel tomorrow before the bank holiday weekend.

I think you may be right there. I mean with a balance of £1.00 left to pay how could the next payment possibly be £80+? at least the settlement figure was a bit more realistic and i was happy to pay it in this case ha.

Haha that's cray, you would think they would just let you off the 10p for all the hassle it would cause both parties to pay and administer it.

Are you able to contact your bank and ask how much notice they need to cancel a DD?

I think i will just cancel it now tbh. Ive paid all they have asked for me to pay. They can contact me if there is any disputes of the payments received but as far as i am concerned the loan is now settled in full. So i have just cancelled it. I dont see it being a problem tbh, but we will see.
