Thanks for your experiences and suggestions.
A workaround that I should have thought of (thanks @Gers), transfer money to an easy access account I set up a year ago then internal xfer to new RS.
Should have money in place by tomorrow.1 -
I tried to send £1 from Lloyds to Chetwood Bank this morning. Having put all the correct details in the Lloyds app, on checking said 'this is not right'. As it was only £1 I sent it anyway and within 1 hour it was in my Chetwood account

All the banks I've tried give a variation on "The account does not exist", not "mismatch" nor "partial" nor any other No message. It must be a function of WestBrom's setup, and probably why they give a specific warning in their welcome email. The payee name for electronic transfers must be addressed to the account holder(s). Your account details will be available for bank verification services within 24 hours of account opening.
flaneurs_lobster said:Well the Sort Code/Account No are a cut'n'paste from the welcome email from WestBrom and the Account No matches the one I can see online at WestBrom.
Is this a very newly created account with WestBrom?
Are WestBrom a Building Society that need to use the codes from one of the main clearing banks rather than having their own codes?
I just wonder whether, if this is a newly created account, it takes time for the wider system to see the account as existing before transfers can be made?
Maybe that is why there is the reference to "within 24 hours" in the welcome e-mail? That would allow for an overnight update to cascade.
I suspect it might be longer when there are weekend / bank holiday events, but that should not affect today / tomorrow as these are normal business days, but may mean that the overnight update did not process yet if the account was only opened on Saturday / Sunday.

I'd also double check that, in doing cut and paste, there's been no inadvertent copying / pasting of a space at the end of the visible digits. It might not apply in this particular scenario, but I've been caught out by this in the past in a more general context.2

virgin money - no
tsb - no
As OP has said, message seems to be the account does not exist rather than no match, and apps flat out refuse to proceed. Must be some system in addition to confirmation of payee that has all the valid sort code and account number combinations, and then if it fails that check it just won’t allow you to proceed as there is no where for them to send it to.
Details definitely correct. If you want me to definitely see your reply, please tag me @forumuser7 Thank you.

Santander, online & app - NoIIRC, it is a change they implemented a few months ago. It was originally not possible.0 -
FD do not stop me paying, I have 17 regular savings accounts.I would say 8/12 have not worked with COP. The rest are main banks and have current accounts with them so its not an issue. As I've had accounts with most of them in the past, I just check the details are correct and make the payment even after the warning from FD.0

I have not done it recently with Santander, but have done it with large sums up to about a year ago. I had to phone them and tell them about all the checks that I had made: FCA register etc.
