    That's great progress, well done!
Thank you! Sometimes it feels like I can't see the wood for the trees and then other times I'm optimistic but worry I'm just being ambivalent which is why I got into this muddle in the first place!
  • Love the AC/DC reference. It’s one ear worm I don’t mind as I find it motivating.  You’re doing brilliantly

    Hello LzzyIsGod

I've been reading through your diary and I love the music quotes, some I know and others I don't so I have been checking them out and listening to new songs / bands,so thanks for that.

You've made a great start and I know the mountain seems very steep but a few steps a day will get you to the top.
It's good to get out and have some fun - it's what keeps you going. I hope today is better for you.

    Good luck.

You absolutely need some fun, the debt free journey is too long to live without it.  Put fun in the budget and make it a priority to spend the fun pot.

    What a feeling (Irene Cara)

Well I missed a diary entry yesterday 😂 I was going to update but was so tired I fell asleep really early! Tbh there wasn't much to report- a typical Sunday of getting sorted for the week ahead, running round various sporting activities and a NSD (once I recovered from the slight repercussions of the night before - this is why I only drink once a week!!!). My MSE moment happened when eldest yoof came home with approx 15 extra large cooked sausages that were going begging from the kitchen after one of his sports, a nice little freebie which I used for toad in the hole for tea and then popped the remaining sausages into the packs ups for today. I was ridiculously chuffed with that 🤣

It was a lovely feeling to wake up to 2nd pay day this morning and see my hard earned money        ( well it is in my head, at heart i am a lazy person unfairly being made to live a busy persons life) sat there in its entirety in the bank account and not with half of it swallowed by the overdraft. And my credit score has recovered slightly from the previous few months money shuffling shenanigans so another little boost - I know these don't count for much really but as a little barometer showing improvement it was a welcomed mental boost.

Ive worked today and side hustled tonight - good job really as Ive had money requests for a school trip, a camping trip and exam.money for one of the yoofs clubs. 🙄 The Lord giveth and the kids spendth and taketh away. I don't begrudge them though and I guess that's what the Kids pot of money is there for after all (even if I'm impatient to pay down some debts!)

Another day tomorrow! On we go Diary land peeps!

@Nintud  @Cara_ you're completely right, I'd never make it if there wasn't some light hearted moments tbh,.

I have wondered if I have made my fun pot too generous but given there was £6.50 left in it this month I think what would happen is I'd end up "stealing" from other pots and then beat myself up mentally for doing it and feel like giving up. Gotta play the long game strategically.

The things we do for our kids!  As much as I'd love to allocate more to debts/savings, I would never let my kids suffer as a result.  I'm aware that many people wouldn't consider missing out on school trips or birthday parties as "suffering", but I know how difficult it can be for kids.  Throughout my entire childhood, we had two holidays (one to Dorset, the other to Wales), we could never have a birthday party and my parents didn't even have a bedroom (family of 8 in a small 3 bed semi).  I feel really privileged to be able to give my children things I never had - even if my DH does protest at the ambition of the kids' parties!!  This year, I'm planning for DD3 and friends to have a visit from a couple of ponies, one of which will be dressed up to look like a unicorn!  Can't wait to see DD3's face!!

Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.
    Debt at highest = £62,842.59 (Dec 2018) - now £42,295.36 (22.06.25)
    Mortgage start Dec 2024 £247,069.59 - now £244,337.48
    Mortgage overpayment total = £300
    Emergency fund £971.14/£2000

Working 9 to 5 (good old Dolly P)

Missed yesterday due to an exceptionally long and stressful day at work but needless to say there were many more hours done than Dolly sings (and unpaid too ofcourse 🙄) Wasn't quite a no spend day as I forgot my lunch and I really needed something to get me through. 4 quid spent drat drat drat.

Hoping for a calmer day today and it's started brightly. One of my cards has offered a credit limit rise - now I know what you're thinking as it is likely to be my initial reaction "NO LZZY DONT DO IT".

However ..........  debt management is a bit like playing chess isn't it - all about thinking 3 steps ahead. I know come july/Aug I am going to be chasing those nice 0% deals in time for my current ones running out Sept/Oct and the old credit score took a battering with my last jiggery pokerey money shuffling around so I'm going to need it to recover a bit (alot even).  By increasing the limit on one card it's a nudge towards getting that balance towards the below 50% credit limit (which it will be by July) and reducing my overall % usage which should then hopefully positively impact on my score. Wouldn't it be nice to have those 0% interests on nice long terms so I can pay them off before they expire ......

Obviously I have no intention of using that card for purchases - because that would be a ridiculous move even for me - and I always planned paying the CCs off would likely take 3 years even if secretly I am aiming for sooner (I'm 3 months in on that time line). A couple of nice 24 month deals would do it come Autumn so I'm hoping this is a strategic move rather than a kamikaze one. Worst case scenario I request to lower it again.
