Ah yes thank you - not quite sure what happened yesterday, felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders (which ofcourse it wasn't- there's much more important things going on in the world!)

    thinnnnnngs can only get bettttttttter

So definitely a brighter day today, not back to full fighting spirit but marginally more like myself. Must keep an eye on the old mood barometer as I have a long way to go on this climb (I'm still refusing to use "journey" because it gives me the ick 😅) and last thing i need is (another) mental crash which I had a few years ago.

Anyway, another NSD which is excellent. In order to bounce myself up again I thought I'd make a list of Positive Achievements so far on this, the (well acknowledged) 11 billionth day of January.

    1.   I have stayed out of the overdraft since I cleared it on 31/12/24
    2.   Following on from no 1, I actually STILL HAVE MONEY in the black in the bank
    3.   There's enough money for this week's and next weeks food, petrol and "fun" money
    4.    All debts have come down a bit this month
    5.    There's been no use of the credit cards so no further debt accrued
    6.    ( Other than the money I put towards paying off the OD and the wood delivery) There's been no dipping into the personal or joint EFs.
    7.    Payday is coming !!!

It's been a little bit of a joke at home that no-one dares spend any money without notifying me first and getting permission - Secretly i quite like this stance 🤣 but it does make me sound like an utter tyrant and control freak (which I don't really want to be) and also long term doesnt help the other half or the yoofs learn to budget.

I've been trying to push the "mindful spending" mantra - do I need it vs do I want it and can it wait or is it absolutely necessary now. I think the message is slowly dripping through, even to the eldest yoof who is managing to keep his lunch money budget under control (NB - this was wildly out of control and with the schools new cashless system which just automatically tops up and debits your account as and when, made budgeting utterly impossible).

Weekend looms, which is usually the undoing of all my Good Intentions but lets see what I can achieve if i put my mind to it.

Thank you for continuing to read my waffle - I do take great inspiration in reading other people's diaries and hopefully one day I too can write "Lzzy was here, and is now Debt Free baby"

That's great the family are on board. Is there a way to turn the auto top up of food card off? Maybe set yourself a reminder every month or week to add money instead.

    All I wanna do

I nearly went with "Carwash" today as a title as today's main achievement was washing and cleaning out my car aka the dustbin on wheels. However, as I ventured out at around midday and found many of the local ones had mashooosive queues, I thought of Sheryl Crow and the line "all the good people of the world washing their cars on their lunch break" as it seemed they blooming well were.

I admit I cheated as for the outside I spent money went through the actual car wash - partly because being short I struggle reaching the middle of the roof of even small cars and partly because it was cold and my fingers increasingly struggle and turn white and get a funny sensation in them in extreme cold (I am suspecting it's Raynards disease tbh). I did opt for the cheap wash (£6.50) and not the expensive £10 one and then came home and did all the inside myself (saving 15 quid). Not a perfect job but significant improvement!!

This wasn't a true essential spend but given even I couldn't tell what colour the car should be and the automated parking barrier at work wanted me to clean the number plate before lifting up, it really needed to be done. I'm hoping the Car Gods show me a little love for my efforts and give me no more car problems for the foreseeable (I know, I know I live in hope!!). If not atleast I won't be embarrassed if the local constabulary pull me over for crimes against driving a dustbin.

Tonight me and the youngest yoof scoured the cupboard for ingredients to make stuff and made the (flattest ever) Victoria sponge and prepped the ice cream maker for tomorrow using up Christmas leftovers.  Everything we used we already had which was a real bonus and he loved it.

After @Sarahwithlove excellent suggestion I looked into the school lunch problem and have managed to change it to a manual bank transfer whoop whoop. No more unexpected automated top ups and they send an email when the account is getting low. Winner winner (controlled spending) chicken dinner.  Didn't help today eldest yoof forgot his pack up 🙄 Ah well He Will Learn !!

I thought there must be a way as I know my sister in law gives my nephew so much a week and once it's gone it's gone.

It's funny I don't remember it being such an issue before but they've got a new provider in this term and alongside everything going up everywhere, naturally the prices have also crept up. Which is fine and I get it but I can't cope with the 15 quid unpredictably disappearing every few days 🤣. I just assumed there was only one way of doing it and hadn't occurred to me to look into it so thank you!
