5 years time   Noah and the whale

oh for a crystal ball to see into the future. It would help a lot wouldn't it with decision making (I can empathise with people who seek out psychics and wanting to have their futures predicted). I'm increasingly ruminating (what a great word BTW, not used enough!) over my work dilemma. I'm not bad at making decisions day to day but big ones I struggle with due to the worry of choosing the wrong one, hindsight is indeed a marvellous thing. This one will rumble for some time yet so bare with me as it won't be a quick one.

Money wise its the usual mid month pinch - the slight panic that it won't all last til pay day especially as this month it definitely won't du to the kids added expenses. I did earn a little extra today with one of my side hustles although due to other commitments/holidays (not mine! No more jollies for me in the immediate future) this will be on a hiatus for the next month or so which is a shame as I do really enjoy doing it.

Our gas/lecky bill is SHOOTING UP from the foreseeable by a massive 70 quid a month despite being with a cheap provider although thankfully water is staying the same. I'm Mindful from September we will have 2 bus passes to pay for each month for school which ain't cheap either.

Just feels all a bit "squeezy" from all sides at the moment so this might also have implications on my work decision....... pass me that magic 8or crystal ball please!!

That's a HUGE increase to your electric bill!!  I've ended up switching to a fixed tariff with our provider to try and avoid a sudden hike in costs.  Did yours give you that option?
Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.
    Debt at highest = £62,842.59 (Dec 2018) - now £41,210.19 (02.08.25)
    Mortgage start Dec 2024 £247,069.59 - now £243,955.28
    Mortgage overpayment total = £300
    Emergency fund £1000/£2000

    Rollin'   Limp Bizkit

End of another week, blimey they are flying by this year! Tucked in bed with some cheesy TV as doing overtime again this weekend trying to claw back the expensive March this has become!

A NSD personally for me although weekly grocery shop has been done and ive come in under budget. Next week if I'm really.careful and inventive I may save £125 which would be ace and cover one of the school trip payments rather than it coming out the joint savings pot. Im anticipating an Eat the freezer week!

One of my side hustles has paid up from a few weeks ago (they can be a bit tardy tbh and I hate chasing them although I do). Not a massive amount but still it's 16 quid towards next week which will be spendy with a dentist trip (already paid for but inevitably will need a future booking and either full payment or deposit) and a haircut (haircut has already had the majority   paid for in advance though so just 6 quid to pay and is blooming well overdue). We do have a family night out planned to the local sports club as eldest youth is playing under the lights but hopefully we can be sensible and not spend the entire allocated budget.

We soldier on but I do think my mindset remains different to this time 6 months ago - thinking, planning ahead and budgeting for things rather than praying it'll all be OK. When I skim back through my diary I can see this point in the month I usually start to panic slightly so it's a little reassuring I always feel like this!

And so we keep on rollin' .........

That really is a huge increase in electricity/gas.  Were you underpaying for what you use before or come off a low fix?  Mine hasn't asked me to change at all, though realistically I should put it up about £10 a month.  Have you done a comparison elsewhere?

ouch on the lecky bill @LzzyIsGod - is this recouping usage (beyond that end of winter in debt thing that usually happens) or do you think they are chancing their arm a bit - I think I'd give them a call and try and negotiate a mid way point with them, I managed this with the tentacled one this time last year, they wanted me to go up from £90 to £200 as I was 300 quid in debit on the account but I managed to get them to £130 which they later reduced by another 25 quid as I was so much in credit in the summer.

    July 2024 £12,150  Aug 2025 B/Card £6,300, N/West £1,770, Halifax £1,182, Klarna £568, Sports Trip £335, Very £122 & HMRC GONE!!!!  Total £10,276
