2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD - The Joy of Decluttering

Hello I would like to join this lovely thread.
Sorry to hear of folks , having problems. Hope they ease soon.
I am a cat lover . I have a ginger and white cat , who is nearly 2 . Me and my oh we're not going to have another cat , when our last one died a couple of years ago. I was thinking a tidy , clean house would be nice . That thought lasted a month., house was when getting in from work. So we ended up putting a deposit on a kitten.
I need to declutter. I have my stuff. Oh stuff. A few relatives who have passed items. My mothers items, she is in a nursing home ,house sold a few years back.
We only have one item in the loft.
Bedrooms are the main problem. I list items on vinted.
My tip is get rid of items that you know you do not want or need first.
Always keep on top of packaging recycling. I do this every day.
I am still struggling with a big frog paperwork, regarding my mother's funding at the home ,as her funds are dwindling.
Not done a great deal of decluttering in January. I work part time. My mom was in hospital last week up ,so that was last.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone xI am a Senior Ambassador on the Competitions Time Board and the Old Style MoneySaving Board.

Off to the CRUK shop in the local town shortly ( unusually they are open 7 days a week) with 2 black bags of Dawn's clothes and 3 more from a neighbour who heard I was going ( and would I mind etc - of course not!).
Decluttered a lot of ivy off the house walls in preparation for painting in the spring - Green waste collection sorted for tomorrow.
Loads of electronic stuff , emails/photos/ etc gone.
I don't count - just do.
Hopefully going to get rid of a large portion of the muckheap in the field too later this week. Jury is still out on that one.
Huge bag of pinecones going to the school tomorrow - they get used for all sorts of things and they are always glad to have them.

@vulpix
Sorry to hear about the problems. I hope you regain health and strength soon.
I noticed you mentioned getting wool from Mrs SD. Did you mean only wool or any knitting yarn? If the latter, do you need any more?
I've got loads (2-3 under-the-bed storage boxes) of acrylic that I bought for my DD when she started knitting/wanting handknits again. I bought it rather than wool because her skin's very sensitive and most wools feel itchy. (And I thought I was fussy about yarns!) A variety of colours and plys (weights?), especially DK.
DD now only uses ethically produced, natural fibres. (Planet warming, production methods etc) So this lot's going begging.
If you can find a use for it, let me know and I'll let you have it.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

@vulpix - I am glad that the NHS provided their best for you but I imagine that it was a frightening experience to have a stroke. You are meant to rest so I hope and beg that you will do so and let the family take the strain 💐xx@Muddy_Walker - I think that very conscientious people tend to feel like imposters because they can always see that others are having even more difficulty. This shouldn’t mean that their own health problems and difficulties are minimised though. What you have is considered bad enough for medical professionals to say that you need treatment and rest so please do take this seriously and go with it, rather than chastising yourself. Think about what you need to be as well as you can and make that your priority 💐xx19

Thank you all for your lovely comments! I feel better having your valued opinions xxxx I think sometimes the mental whirlwinds can be as bad as the physical ones.

@vulpix oh crikey! Take it easy, I guess things will take some getting used to x
@Muddy_Walker I know how you feel, but if the Dr has signed you off you need to rest x

I have done one of my deep cleaning jobs today, I cleaned the downstairs windows in one of the living rooms and I have dusted the whole house. I'm about to do a load of laundry now. I need to come up with some type of weekly cleaning routine when this is done. I did look at the Flylady thing on here, but I remember thinking it seemed far too involved. Lol.
I have five items for the bulky waste now. I decided to get rid of the two cat litter trays as we only have one cat left now and she can't get in and out of either tray (because of her arthritis as she will be 20 this year) so we had to use a large box instead. If we ever adopt another cat I will just buy a new tray rather than just cluttering up the shed with the old ones.
It is quite a lovely day, sunny and frosty. I did look at the crescent moon last night as it seemed so clear and I saw on Facebook today that it was the moon and Venus.18 -
Hi everyone
Big hugs to you @Muddy_Walker, I hope resting is helping you. Also, big hugs @vulpixthat sounds very scary. I hope you have a nice visit with family today.
@Florenceem, glad to hear your updates about Mr F, I hope you can find him some slippers that fit.
Regarding packaging, I save all packaging from any online purchases; there are some good ideas on here about asking in shops or on free sites. My DD1 sells lots on V!nted. I like SYLO for inspiration.
I've done some low level decluttering - taken my soft plastics to the local c00p and shredded lots of paperwork and put in the recycling.
One of my challenges to myself this year is to put things away AT ONCE! I've got a small suitcase on the landing from when i visited DD2 a fortnight ago - oopsI'll go and empty it and put everything away right now .....

The other bit is making sure less comes in than goes out! Easier said than done, I came home with a large murano (style) glass flamingo yesterday!
