I'd generally agree, I tend to open as soon as possible but then refresh if still available at the end of the month, this way I've secured the account if it goes NLA but if it's still available I've got a maturity date of the end of the month which works out better for cashflow so I get the best of both worlds.

The likes of Monmouthshire and Skipton are handy in this regard, you can get your application in as soon as it's available and then just delay the date of your initial deposit to pick your preferred maturity date.
Bridlington1 Thanks for the idea to refresh Monmouth. I wasn't even considering it.
I want to spread out my maturities next year, way too many maturity proceeds in Aug & Sep of 2026.

I was planning to refresh Monmouth Reg Saver Iss 8.
I realise that I have Two Reg Saver Iss 8, opened in July 2025. General feedback here was that extra Reg Saver were to be closed automatically by the bs, I funded only one per month, expecting the other one to be closed by them.

In Sep 2025, I was told, to my surprise, by their lovely CS exec that I can fund the other Reg Saver Iss 8, so I had been doing the transfers in since Sep 2025. I understand I m amongst very few ppl who have their duplicate accts surviving.

Now if I close the July25 Iss 8 RS, with the intention to refresh it, I m wondering will they allow me to open a new one?

    Dudley Festive Saver - online

I was just about to open this but the product page says 'no longer available'. Hoping it's just a Sunday blip. Anyone else managed to access and open it today?
I opened mine half an hour before you posted. I had to do it on my iPhone as this was the only device I have access to right now. I had all sorts of problems, such as not getting a keyboard popup for entering some mandatory information, and it took me several false starts, incl two reboots, before it eventually worked. The link to Savings on their website when logged in was dead, too, and I found the RS eventually via their ISA link. There appears to be a problem or two with their website, so worth trying again, may be in the morning

I'd be surprised if they did allow you to open a new one as you'd already hold one of the same issue but anything's possible within reason.

I'd be inclined to leave your MBS accounts as they are if I was in your position as I'd be wanting to keep hold of both accounts, you can always withdraw early from one or both of them if cashflow really becomes an issue.

    Dudley BS Online Festive Saver

Let this be a lesson for the future.....

If you want an account, go for it as soon as you see it. You don't have to fund up to the maximum, just get your application in. If your application fails for some reason and it then goes NLA, so be it. It wasn't for you. But hanging around and it then goes NLA, you have only yourself to blame.

Playing games like trying to time the day of the week that the maturity date will fall on, always risky and just not worth it.

I've been playing the RS game for 10 years now and know how it works. Take advice from an old pro.
I've learned this lesson in 2023 when I missed Monmouthshire 7% which was available to only 24 hours.  I didn't ignore it or took time to think about it, but simply took a day off from monitoring the RS market. Since then I monitor daily and grab any product that has the potential to be useful as soon as it becomes available. No speculative waiting games for me. If a product requires thinking about its usefulness/appropriateness this usually means I don't really need this account.

    PBS morphing

I had two matured today. Xmas 25 -> 6M - failed as expected. HH -> Xmas 26 morphed successfully.  I submitted instructions as soon as the options were available (14 days ago) and was wearing black t-shirt made in Canada with a stereotypical picture of pine trees and the wolf.  It could be the wolf that sabotaged opening another 6M.
  • Also, 'hopefully' opened the. Dudley festive RS this morning. Application seemed to go through but had a message to say it would be within 3 working days. Here's to hoping.

Personally, if I wanted to be able to keep funding two of the same issue, I wouldn't push my luck, if I were you!

What does it mean to “refresh” a regular saver? Is it just opening the same issue after it has matured?

It means closing an account before it matures and immediately reopening the same issue.
