Hanley have now released TAR10 which is the online version of their Smart Saver

    https://www.thehanley.co.uk/savings/products/1-year-online-smart-saver-tar10

Seems they haven't quite updated the product details - 'Is this product right for me' suggested the account cannot be operated online, whereas the summary confirms it can be.

I've written to them to point this out and to confirm that online operation is the intended process. I hope so as they don't seem to provide the customer account number until the online user ID is sent and I log in!

Hanley have now released TAR10 which is the online version of their Smart Saver - all easily opened through online banking and account now showing in the app.

It's £300/month for 12 months at 6.5% AER  variable - maximum balance of £3,600 - the account allows two penalty-free withdrawals per tax year, otherwise withdrawals allowed but with a loss of interest.

    That looks enticing.

A couple of points worth noting:
Interest is paid annually on 31st August, rather than on maturity.
You can deposit by debit card.
Your account could be closed if you miss more than 3 monthly deposits.

I think Hanley need to update the product conditions on their website - looks like they've done a copy-paste job from the branch version: :D

opened as a new customer without issue (apart from not getting sms, so had to get authorisation code via email) - I now have to wait for my user id to arrive in the post before I can login.
Great news, your account has been opened successfully and you will receive your welcome pack in the post. Your userID will be included in this pack to enable you to login to Online Banking.

We encourage all members to fund their account as soon as they receive their userID. Instructions on how to fund the account will be available within your online banking portal.

From the date you fund this account there will be a 10 day stop on any withdrawals. This is to enable us to complete our processes and back ground checks.

Hanley - I had really bad issues getting the verification code but eventually it came through and I've funded.

I got the welcome email with the sort code etc but it does not actually give the  Hanley account reference number for me to set up the standing order so I will ring them a bit later - I like to tick all boxes from day one

Please can I ask is there an app or is it just the online webpage?

We were looking forward to a little drive to Stone this morning so thats saved a job :)

  • Hanley - I am in no hurry to apply for this, so will wait until things all shake out. Looks like they haven't managed to seamlessly translate the branch account into an online one.

Also, looking at the "Can I withdraw money" section:

"You can withdraw up to £500 in cash and £70,000 by cheque on demand from our branches or by sending us your signed written instructions. Larger cash sums up to £5,000 are available by giving at least 24 hours notice.

Cheque withdrawals over £70,000 can be obtained from our Registered Office. Following any withdrawals £25 should remain in the account."

No mention of online withdrawals. However I suspect they've just copied and pasted the terms from the branch account, and haven't included some of the necessary info for online accounts.

My SMS never arrived either, so used email and then received message/email that it was opened successfully. Funded with debit card.

In no hurry either. A copy and paste job done without at least reading the outcome before going on line doesn't give me any confidence, not to mention the interest paid only once a year at the end of August

    Hanley

I’ve retrieved my login and can see my Branch Saver there (usually just use the app), but no application links there. Then I clicked on Enquire Now and followed the link to login and apply, but it gave me the same view as before. Nowhere to actually apply for the account..
