Melton BS have pulled all their savings account applications while they upgrade their system, which is expected to take several weeks.

We’ve been working on some improvements to the way you can access and operate your accounts.

The launch of the new system is imminent, and as a result there will be some short term disruption in the interim period.

From 9am on the 19th September, you will be unable to make any changes to your nominated account.

From 9am on the 26th September, you will be unable to make amendments, withdrawals or transfers, apply notice, or input any instructions.

I guess that means they won't be launching a special account for UK Savers Week this year.

Woah this is crazy - presumably you can still operate in branch/by post/by calling anyone know?

Very poor if that notice was not given prior to 19th September. Anyone with an outdated nominated account that wasn’t switched using the switch service now cannot make any withdrawals until who knows when, given that Royal Mail might struggle to deliver a written request for a cheque plus passbook before the 26th (if Melton will even issue a cheque at this point given that it definitely won’t arrive with the account holder and clear by Friday morning.)

Building society cheques are drawn from the relevant account when the cheque is issued and placed in a holding account (with a clearing bank) from which the funds are transferred whenever the cheque is presented. It'd be fine.
  • Nobody said UK Savings Week was just about new account offerings. I guess this must be Meltons contribution to the Savings Week.

Virgin appear to have pulled their Regular Saver, did I miss this recently or has it just been pulled perhaps for a higher rate Savings Week offering?

I'm pretty sure all their regular savers have only been offered for 1 calendar month - the 10% one was July 2024, then the subsequent 6.5%ers were May and August this year. Possible another one too earlier on.

    Nationwide BS Flex Regular Saver

My Issue 3 Flex RS has its maturity date today. Interest has been added (£93.46). I have moved the balance plus interest out.  The account is still showing as a Flexible RS which is preventing me opening a new one (now Issue 7). I can't remember what happened last year. Has anyone any recent experience of a Flex RS maturity and can recall when the account changes to an Instant Saver?
