    CHIP

Did a survey for chip about choosing accounts from different providers and which would I choose with various options. A couple of the chip account options included regular savers between 5.5% and 7%. Perhaps they are going to offer one in the near future
Would be the only reason I'd go back to actively saving with them to be honest, only got £1 with them at the moment.

I noticed they are also crowdfunding.

    If anyone uses First Direct,  here's a heads-up ....

You won't be able to create a Standing Order (using online banking or the App) for Bev BS RS as the account number is eight zeros.

However, FD staff are able to do so, therefore use telephone banking and they'll do it for you. This obviously applies if trying to create a SO to pay to any other Bank/BS using a Collection account of all zeroes.

It's odd as there are a lot of organisations which use 00000000 as their collection account for payments including some other building societies.

I closed my account when it looked like it was going to be easy to fall into paying them fees. 2022 autosave changes, I think.

Yes this caused me issues when wanting to send money to Lloyds or Newbury BS. It’s so frustrating but hopefully they will sort it quickly though I believe it’s been going for some time.

Is it just standing orders that are at issue, or can you not even set up a new payee with an all-zero account number? I thought I had done this and sent a manual payment successfully in the past.

It's only SO. A 'manual payment' works fine. A clumsy bodge would be to create a few forward-dated payments, but it's a tad time consuming.

I also had a similar(ish) issue when making a manual payment.  It crashed with a generic internal error code. They investigated and replied that there was a Space in the Reference field.
I pointed out that I didn't (intentionally) use a space. They informed me that it sometimes occurred whilst 'pasting ' from email, other bank apps etc. Needless to say, whilst using FD , I now avoid copy/paste like the plague .....

They sent me round in circles from one staff member to another telling me I could setup the standing order myself but I kept telling them about the error message. Ironically I had pointed out to the first member of staff that it was most likely to do with the 0s, but oh no I had it wrong (I was right!). Took a complaint to get it sorted.

    Wasn’t very First Direct.

    Re Scottish BS
Has everyone who applied via email received a response from them?
    Scottish BS RS

Yes; had to send my driving licence via email, only to be told afterwards that all was well and my account would be further processed WHEN they receive my opening deposit ... by mail. Groan. (Now off to find the chequebook in the dusty drawers of old...)
I too had to hunt out the unused cheque book of olden days !
Last time I wrote out a cheque the stub was dated 2019
    Cheque Scottish BS

Thought I might apply as nothing came from Savings Week - don't use cheques anymore so had to hunt for the cheque book - found - it has a Griffin on the front and is from Midland Bank - still got same account - wonder if HSBC would process the payment - however just switched my Santander CA to Nationwide and asked for a cheque book.
Oh, I recall my first bank account, a "Griffin Saver". Lots of lovely lovely tat came with it.
I had a Griiffin Saver account, I still have the dictionary in my drawer.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
