Windows 11 Pro update problem

In Windows update I get the message - Your version of Windows has reached the end of service.
What? I thought I was on Windows 11 Pro.
I have a used Dell Optiplex 3050 that a while back I've added a M.2 1TB storage module. I also upgraded the RAM to 16GB.
It came with Windows 10 on the 256GB SSD drive which I replaced with Windows 11 (on the M.2 1TB drive) that I downloaded from Microsoft. (Windows Update said my PC didn't meet the requirements for Windows 11 hence the download). I was advised this was a legitimate way to upgrade Win 10 to 11.
For well over a year all has been good and I've had no problems.
What have I done wrong? I've read in the last week MS has been pushing Win 10 users that don't automatically support Win 11 to upgrade anyway, just like I've done.
Any help gratefully received. Thanks for reading.

Go to Settings > System > About > Windows Specifications.Note the version number (e.g., 22H2). Compare it with the supported version for Windows 11 Windows 11 version history - Wikipedia
If you installed Windows 11 using the Media Creation Tool to bypass requirements, it's possible Windows Update hasn't performed a major version update. You may need to again download the latest version of Win 11 and perform an upgrade keeping files and apps1 -
Thanks for the replies.
So far all updates have been done without any issues - none have failed to install correctly.
Windows Specifications shows:-
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on xx/xx/2023
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1041.0
As far as I remember it wasn't installed using the Media Creation Tool, although I could be wrong.

If you run windows update it should update to v24h2
If it doesn't, go here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11
and choose 'Windows 11 installation assistant' to update to v24h21 -
I'm stuck. Windows Update completely refuses to update to v24h2.
So I downloaded the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool and this created the Windows 11 USB Flash install media - but it'll only allow Windows 11 to be installed by obliterating everything. This is no good as I've loads of stuff saved and have VM Virtualbox with 7 versions of Linux and Windows 8.1. It would be an incredible rigmarole to backup everything.
The Windows Update Assistant doesn't work because my PC doesn't meet the hardware update requirements. And this is despite the fact they are trying to push reluctant Windows 10 users towards Windows 11.
Well done Microsoft. Never fails to disappoint.
What happens if I just stay on 22H2?
thanks0 -
I think this is the risk with forcing W11 onto hardware that doesn't support it. I don't believe what you did originally was ever supported I'm afraid.
I wouldn't blame Microsoft to be honest (though why Intel gen8 CPUs are fine when gen7 CPUs are not - even though they're almost identical baffles me). I hope you don't have any apple devices, or those of many other manufacturers actually, since it's hardly uncommon for old hardware to not receive the latest OS versions.3 -
Yes, I suppose what they really want is for me to just chuck this Optiplex 3050 away and buy a new PC. If I'd stayed with Windows 10 next October it would be exactly the same issue.
Also recently MS has been trying to get Windows 10 users to upgrade despite the fact that the hardware doesn't meet the minimum requirements.0 -
Try a tool like Rufus or Flyby to update to 24H2
