Shazly said:I recently noticed after the latest update to the National Lottery app, when purchasing your tickets, that both days (Wednesday AND Saturday for Lotto and Tuesday AND Friday for Euromillions) are pre-selected instead of allowing you to select yourself as before. My automatic reaction has been to click and select the day I want to play which now has the opposite result to deselect my day. This has led me to play on the following Saturday instead of the Wednesday which is a 'must be won' rollover. I rarely play, but sometimes do on a rollover which must be won, as the chances of winning something are more likely. Now I have accidentally purchased tickets on the wrong day twice so need to think more carefully when buying through the app.I believe this change is a deliberate ploy to make people buy extra tickets they did not plan to, since they won't allow you to get a refund or change the date if bought in error. Should this be allowed?0

I know the OP was about the app, but thanks for the warning as I always do the lottery on a laptop. On there both Wednesday and Saturday are now selected by default. It does look like an easy way for the National Lottery to make money until people get wise to it.

I’ll tell you why…..it’s to confuse some of the lottery players into purchasing 2 tickets instead of 1 ticket. There was nothing wrong with the old system, so that’s the only reason they could have for changing it.0

If playing via the web page on W10/Chrome both days ARE being selected automatically.
No reason why it shouldn't be allowed but you need to keep your wits about you!
In any case you have the opportunity to check the price and draw dates before buying.
It’s a bit like the days when you had to OPT out of continuing a subscription etc. by unticking a hidden option on many websites in the past. That was actually made illegal.
Remember the days when electronics websites tried to automatically add on charges for warranties or finance agreements? Again….you have to OPT IN rather than mistakenly choosing add ons that you don’t want.
I wonder if these National Lottery changes are even legal since it’s a form of gambling and there are strict laws surrounding betting etc. of any sort.
While yes Wed/Sat are both set @ ON. When you add a line. Where you click on PLAY it has the amount above it where you can not miss the amount.
So no excuse for not noticing.
Nothing like warranties or finance. This is purely lack of personal checking of what is being done.
Pic of what I see in my account.

Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get us.2 -
I've got caught twice selecting Saturday then given Wednesday tickets .... on line Windows 10 .... I thought I was going crazy until I read these posts ..... Sneaky trick .... I'm very annoyed ..... last time I thought my mistake I'll buy Saturday tickets in addition .... not this time so after 30 years they may have had my last bet.0

Surely this thread should be on Praise, Vent and Warning part of the forum?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I suspect it will be seen by far more people where is currently is. The change to the website design seems to be intended to catch people out. On the old version neither day was highlighted so a purchase couldn't be made without selecting one or other. Now it is easy to end up with both.

I was very surprised to see the amount of negative 'it's your fault' responses to the way the lottery has changed how you choose the days of play.
It caught me out yesterday. For all the clever people who wouldn't let this catch them out, I hope it booking does.
