National Lottery Online

I recently noticed after the latest update to the National Lottery app, when purchasing your tickets, that both days (Wednesday AND Saturday for Lotto and Tuesday AND Friday for Euromillions) are pre-selected instead of allowing you to select yourself as before. My automatic reaction has been to click and select the day I want to play which now has the opposite result to deselect my day. This has led me to play on the following Saturday instead of the Wednesday which is a 'must be won' rollover. I rarely play, but sometimes do on a rollover which must be won, as the chances of winning something are more likely. Now I have accidentally purchased tickets on the wrong day twice so need to think more carefully when buying through the app.I believe this change is a deliberate ploy to make people buy extra tickets they did not plan to, since they won't allow you to get a refund or change the date if bought in error. Should this be allowed?

I've checked and my app doesn't do that. Maybe delete the app and reinstall it? Or check to see of there are any settings that need changing0

As of right now the Android App Version 8.21.0 is NOT automatically selecting both days on Lotto, Set for Life and Euromillions.
If playing via the web page on W10/Chrome both days ARE being selected automatically.
No reason why it shouldn't be allowed but you need to keep your wits about you!
In any case you have the opportunity to check the price and draw dates before buying.

If you play via the website they it also pre enable the days. You only get caught out once by this.

Sounds more like user error to be honest.

Why does the poster above assume it is user error.
I do the lottery on my Windows 11 computer using the Chrome browser.
After I enter my lottery numbers I then select the DAY I want the tickets to be entered for (both days are usually OFF), in the case of Euro Millions either Tuesday OR Friday. If I select Tuesday I get a ticket for the ONE day, the Tuesday.
But now both days (Tuesday and Friday) are ON by default.
If I don't make any changes then I will buy TWO tickets, one for Tuesday one for Friday.
This happened to me a few days ago when I did not notice the change and found I had indeed bought two tickets, for Tuesday AND Friday when I only wanted one.0 -

It’s a bit like the days when you had to OPT out of continuing a subscription etc. by unticking a hidden option on many websites in the past. That was actually made illegal.
Remember the days when electronics websites tried to automatically add on charges for warranties or finance agreements? Again….you have to OPT IN rather than mistakenly choosing add ons that you don’t want.
I wonder if these National Lottery changes are even legal since it’s a form of gambling and there are strict laws surrounding betting etc. of any sort.2 -
I find the new system easier and less confusing than the old system.3
