Hi all,

Looking for some advice if possible.

I applied for a balance transfer credit card with a 0% balance transfer offer with Santander in August, it was pre approved, ran a full application and was advised contact would be made within 5 days regarding the application.

No can’t was made until 2 months later where I was advised the application had been approved and was advised card is on the way and would take 5 days to get me.

No card was received, had a text to say please activate card etc.

I called 3 times over the space of 2 weeks to be told they didn’t know what was happening and would be called back, nobody called.

Raised a complaint last month to be told the application encountered an error initially hence why I didn’t receive any card, they ran the application again recently but it was declined so they can’t offer me a credit card now due to my affordability changing.

When the application was accepted and I was told card was on its way, I made some purchases on another credit card which i wanted to transfer the a balance of to the Santander credit card that I was told was on its way.

I understand they can’t offer me a credit card now which I have accepted. However in terms of any compensation offered what would you deem as sufficient? I made the extra purchases and will either need to pay them off earlier then I intended to or will incur interest on them. They didn’t make me spend the money on the purchases I appreciate that and don’t expect them to pay for the purchases either.

So my question is, what can I expect from Santander regarding the complaint and what should I accept?

Thank you

TBH. I would guess they will say sorry & maybe at best offer a few £.

You have no right to compensation to money you spent in the mean time.

  • Sorry but an apology letter is your only compensation owed.
  • Well they offered £100 I said no, they then offered £300 which I accepted. Either I got lucky and the complaint handler was feeling generous or something seriously wrong is going on at Santander.

    That's a very good result.

It's 'go away' money that they would rather pay than spend more money if you went to FOS.
