Might be better to switch the speakers to Bluetooth instead, rather than faf around with cables. But only if the TV does Bluetooth

Get a speaker wire cable to male RCA plug for each speaker. You can get them cheap from the usual sites. But get a decent RCA to Bluetooth receiver to make the speakers wireless

If your TV doesn't do Bluetooth then your best bet is to get an AV receiver. Doesn't need to be top or mid line. Even second hand will do. Then just insert the "banana" speaker cable to the back and screw it in. Then a HDMI to the TV.

All that is not at a helpful  if the speakers are 'passive' which seems to be the case....

Edit: Apologies jshm2 misread your post somehow so missed the bit about AV receiver....but still it assumes the AV receiver has an HDMI input . Not all do especially older ones.

Still easier with a basic amp.

Banana plugs are a terminal for speaker cable, you dont screw it in but remove the speaker terminal plug and insert them:

With bare wire you'd unscrew the terminal, insert it into the whole and then screw it back down to clamp it in place. You can also get spades with sit around the stem of the terminal and those do need screwing in place.

Assuming the OP doesn't want to cut the banana plugs off they would need to ensure whatever amp they buy has suitable binding posts. The old cheap spring ones like below often won't accommodate banana plugs:
