Was going to let it slide but seeing as someone else has picked up on it... Assuming you are looking at the manual that physically came with the TV that would be very odd. It would also be odd for a company to update a TV and keep the same model number.

That said... HiSense is an illustration of an annoying company... they use different model numbers in different countries, which isnt unheard of, but they use the same model number for different products in the different countries. Can't remember them offhand but in the US they gave their top end offering the same reference as their ultra budget UK one so half the reviews were saying model ABC is fantastic but youre paying for it and the other half were saying its ok for the money but spending a little more gets you a much better set.

So, if you are looking online for a manual you need to be sure its the UK not US manual

** well off topic ** wasn't there a time when TV's (and other popular items) sold by Curry's had a model number unique to Curry's? Allegedly this was to thwart claims on their price guarantee since the item could never be found cheaper elsewhere.......

They used to have a different suffix, which typically denotes what type of stand its on or its case colour but yes meant nothing could be price matched.

Big sellers of beds used to play the same trick but they had totally different product names which meant you couldn't even tell who was cheaper or more expensive let alone get a price match

It happens everywhere, one number or letter different so you can't compare. I bought some Scarpa boots in Blacks recently, it seemed a very good price so on getting home I checked on the Scarpa site - nothing with that number!
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Subsequenty identified a headphone socket so have been trying unsuccessfully to  connect 2 small speakers to it.  Should this be possible or are they incompatible?

Oh dear Grandad! ( from one to another!)

The comments earlier regarding digital needing a D to A converter...and an amplifier to your passive speakers, nearly still applies....in that the converter is not required but the Amplifier is still required.
You can either get an amplifier or get some self powered speakers or sou d bar. If you have  some PC speaker such as a small pair you could plug them in to give it a try provided the socket and plug are compatible such as  a stereo 3.5mm jack that is typical of a headset.

    Example but not a recommendation

Or do you already have an amplifier for your speakers?

Possible? Yes but they will be too quiet to hear unless your head is right next to the speaker. The headphone socket, if thats what it is, will be outputting enough energy to drive a 0.5-1" speaker that is right on top of your ear, not the 2-6" speaker thats on the other side of the room to you.
